Raj Mandir cinema

Hi

My boyfriend and I will be visiting Jaipur in November and would really like to see a film at the Raj Mandir. Does anyone have any advice about booking tickets/getting programme information?

Many thanks. Lucy

I was at the Raj Mandir in 1998. After reading about it in the lonely planet that it was the best theatre in india, I had to see it. I personally found it a total letdown. I expected something like the grand theatres of europe, but instead it was pretty tacky in my opinion. The interior was painted pink, with some kind of ornamental carvings. I don't remember what kind they were. Not to put you off. Because i would go anyways. But I think it won't live up to your expectations! As far as a ticket. Just show up before show time, like i did. You should'nt have a problem as there are different prices, depending where you sit. I sat in the middle and that seems like a good place to sit. They also have intermissions in India. The movie I saw was great. Even though it's in hindi, it was easy to follow. And once in a while they throw in some english words.I did have a fun time there though!
here's a sight I found that has the theatres and movies and showtimes in Jaipur.

Thanks for that. We're just really keen to see a film one night and it sounds like good fun. Lucy

Find the line (to the right of the building), and get real close to the person in front of you.

There were two lines when I was there last year -- to the right (as you face the cinema) were the more expensive seats, and to the left, the cheapest. I patiently queued on the right, only to see the last ticket being sold to the person in front of me. A mad rush over to the cheap-ticket windows, and a proper Indian "queue" (i.e., mad scramble), and I got my ticket.

Turns out it was the opening night of Kal Ho Naa Ho, apparently the biggest film of the year, and hence the huge number of people trying for tickets. The cinema is lovely, outside and in, and a three-hour Bollywood-athon an absolute must.

Have fun!

(No need to pre-book, if that wasn't clear...)

If you have a foreign passport, (or look like a foreigner!), ask at the Gate for the Manager. Raj Mandir keeps some seats reserved for tourists and it should be possible to get them even on weekends from this "quota".

I saw Veer Zaara there last year when it first opened. Great fun! There was a Really long line for men (involving several skirmishes) and a much shorter one for women. We used the women's line and had no problem.

We must have been there at the same time skell! I was so excited about that one but was a bit disappointed.

Would have loved to see KHNH on the big screen though

We probably were guerik, since we were in Pushkar at the same time, but could never quite connect.

SRK on the big screen was not too bad!
