What about TARA NIWAS? Is it Central and Quiet?
I could not find any comments on this hotel.

Jasvilas is reasonably close to some of the tourist attractions, though the attractions are so spread out that no hotel is going to be close to many of them.

Central to what?

The train station? Airport?

What tourist attractions do you intend to visit?

There are no hotels central to the tourist attractions and the train and/or bus station, and airport.

The tourist attractions alone are far too spread out, and the stations and the airport and things get even more spread out.

If you're going for business, where will you be working?

If just for the tourist attractions, what tourist attractions?

Amber Fort on the list?

The Monkey temple on the list? (the best place in Jaipur in my opinion)

Good question. I would like to live closer to the Red City. Well, I understand what you mean.
But: In New York, Manhattan is central and Brooklyne is not.
In Moscow, red Square is central, and Zhukovo is not. I just want to be on the walking distance to the old city (Manhattan in NY, Red Square in Moscow or Tyananman in Beijing).
After I stayed in jaipur, I will know what is central there.

I just stayed at the Arya Niwas in Jaipur. I really liked it. Loved the cafeteria food. Helpful staff. Every morning we would sit in the front yard and watch the resident chipmunk defend its territory! lots of birds also. Very nice place. Link is http://www.aryaniwas.com/

Just make sure that you do not take a room on the ground floor. I really recommend this hotel for the price. it is about 10 minutes away from the walled city--great for shopping! Also close by is the RTDC in case you want to go on a tour.

Good points.

I guess jasvilas may not be conveniently located then, unless like me, you like walking.

It will be interesting to see what other hotels are more conveniently located and if they are still quiet, I've not got a map with me to check the location of the places mentioned above.

Good luck, and try to visit the monkey temple (and surrounds), it's a really pleasant break from the city.

I stayed at the Pearl Palace for 3 weeks in April 2006. It's quiet because it's in a residential area without a main road directly adjacent to it and very good value. The rooftop restaurant is excellent and the kitchen very clean (staffed by ethnic Nepalis from Darjeeling!)
It's 5 mins walk from the RTDC Tourist Bungalow -handy if you're taking their day tour- though you'll need an autorickshaw for the main sites unless you're an enthusiastic walker.

I've stayed at the Atithi both times I was in Jaipur. It is a five minute auto rickshaw from the trainstation and within walking distance of the old city. I don't remember there being a lot of noise, and some rooms are better situated that others. There is a also a beautiful garden.

Pearl Palace - definitely

The Pearl Palace is wonderful. The location convenient. The service of the staff terrific. Their roof-top restaurant had great, fresh food and was a welcome retreat from busy Jaipur. The rooms were clean and large enough for an extended stay. Access to the internet was an added plus. We stayed there for 4 days in April in a family sleeping room - the room was "air cooled" instead of air conditioned, but the fans kept the room cool.

The owner Mr. Singh and his wife are warm and lovely.

Bhim Vilas

Stay at the wonderful Bhim Vilas in Jaipur. This place is amazing and I highly recommend it. It is more like a boutique hotel than a B and B, with beautifully designed rooms and common areas. The place is a great deal and is spotless. They just opened this year and they are not yet very busy due to newness and lack of any PR. The owners are sweet as could be and really made staying in Jaipur a treat.

Moderator note: We do, to the best of our ability, check out posts from new members recommending accomodation to weed out the advertisers, but this seems genuine so welcome to IM

A good place to be right in the center of the city is the LMB hotel which is probably the best sweets store in town, with some rooms added. its vegetarian restaurant is among the best in Northern India, although a bit gloomy in presentation. The hotel has a few AC rooms. LMB's main advantage is the central location within the walled city, within walking distance to the major attractions. For someone staying just for a few days, on an otherwise busy itinerary, it is perhaps the best choice possible. It is located on Johari Bazar road. Everyone there will know the place, if you are capable to pronounce the word "Bazar" to their satisfaction (it is "b'shar" )

I am staying at Pearl Palace now and am very pleased with it. Clean, helpful staff, quiet neighborhood (relatively speaking), but not too far away from things.

Mandawa Haveli - any opinions

I have not stayed there. Seems like potentially a good value and not too expensive 2,000-2,500Rs and seems to located less than 1Km from Chandpol Gate which might make it nice for exploring Old city.

Anyone been there?
