Private Tuition rates in Jaipur

Hi, sorry if this has come up somwhere else before.

Basically, I'd like to now what I could expect to make as a private English tutor in Jaipur.

I'm a native English speaker with 8 years of teaching experience, two teacher qualification certificates and a Masters degree in English linguistics.

I've only ever taught in B schools and language schools in India so don't have any idea what the going rate is.

Cheers

HI Catrina,
Welcome to Jaipur..You can get Rupees 1000-1500 per student per month for teaching english.
I am from jaipur. You can find good quantity of students, or you can join international schools.

Thanks very much Udai. Do you know how many hours a week that would be? Would it be every day? And how many hours a day?

Thanks again

@ caterina - do you read any hindi? or perhaps your spouse does? There're many adverts in dainik bhaskar classifieds section for both tuitions offered and required for english. you may want to look them up for a better idea.

the rate given above appears to be for group classes. Private tuitions (from a native english speaker) should command higher. Also, you haven't specified what level are you willing to teach at? I'm thinking college.

The most lucrative market (amongst people looking to improve their english) in Jaipur is of students that seek entrance to management institutes. There are coaching centers in Jaipur that cater to only that segment and if you'd like to start off low, without an overhead cost of setting up your own establishment, you can contact some of those leading insitutes and then later, branch out on your own.

That's really useful information and my husband does read Hindi so we will check those adverts. Thanks.

Someone has offered me 3500 rupees a month per student. That's for 2 hours tuition, five days a week. He is also sending me 3 students who have completed their Masters so the level I am teachng is quite advanced.

It's very difficult for us to know if this is fee is okay or not. What do you think?

Thanks again

If you can teach them all at the same time, that's a good rate. If it's individual, cant say ... sounds a bit low to me. So use the classifieds to make up your mind!

If you're not going to be under a long term binding contract, no harm taking it on, is there? If you're bored or students dont work hard enough or dont interact or you dont get paid on time, you would be able to call it off, I suppose. If it works well, revise your charges after the 'introductory offer period'

I never took English tuition mind you, I attended several group discussion sessions to lead others into speaking, etc ...

sorry to be blunt, but most of the parents paying for tuition do not care about your academic abilities or experience - all they want to know is if you can assure they can score more marks than their neighbor's kids. so, if you intend to succeed commercially, that is one tough nut you need to crack...

I taught in a B school in Bangalore for a year and I am aware of this type of culture. Luckily, the students who are coming to me now have completed their Masters and just want to polish their English and improve their confidence when speaking so I don't have the pressure of ensuring they get high marks in any exams. Let's see how it goes and as Vaibhav said, I can always call it off if I'm not happy :-)

Vaibhav -Good advice and much appreciated :-)

I did not realise that from the initial post - thanks for clarifying!
