Our next trip to Jaipur and more

Hello,

Im planning the next trip to India for Feb 2007. Ive been to India 11 times and have travelled to many different places, so I have a good idea of general stuff.

For the next trip we want to start from Bombay and before heading south want to take in Rajasthan, Delhi and Agra. Ive never been to Rajasthan before so can anyone out there suggest an itinary for this section of the trip, we will be in India for 3 weeks and are quite fexible on how long we stay in each place,

Many thanks
Jamie

hmm... I would suggest to utilize landing in MUMBAI. You have 2 options..

1.AJANTA ELLORA CAVES
2. AJANTA ELLORA CAVES + Trek in Sahyadri Mountain Range [ You will be walking through jungle and tribal areas ]

You can come to Delhi via Mumbai or Pune by air which is just 2 hrs flight but if you are on tight budget then leave touring and trekking and come st. for DELHI.

From Delhi you can travel to JAIPUR and AGRA by A/C train which will bemost suitable and easy and less hectic.

I think instead of using road...travelling in A/C train is comfortable.

If you haven't been to Rajasthan once, even landing in India 11 times, then you really haven't tasted and felt the real and traditional India.

And to start your tour in Rajasthan you can start from Jaipur and onwards to Ajmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner and more. From Mumbai to Delhi by Train/Plane (you can choose "Sleeper class" for train as in winter time (Jan, 07) you won't require a/c at all but for your safety you can also choose 3 Tier AC class.) Don't go for 1st class a/c unless you’re too rich.

Yes, to your question. In Jaipur if you plan to stay a night I would strictly ask you to have a go to "Chokhi Dhani" (at afternoon 5pm onwards, since in winter it gets dark at 6pm) you can feel all the traditional stuffs there with the most traditional Rajasthani dinner. I love that place myself. You'll even find Indian tourists going to that place.

I'm not a broker or anything of that resort, but the place is just so cool. Website at www.chokhidhani.com ....... you can even stay a night at there.

Go to Amber Fort (must), Albert hall, jaigarh, hawa-mahal (must), jantar-mantar (interesting astrological Indian stuffs) and off course to the pink city with a rickshaw ride. And go for some shopping.

Don't go shopping near hawa-mahal and other tourist places. They just charge a lot for foreigners. If you have a time, shop in pink city. And don't forget to bargain.

If you have a time, please visit “Govind Devji Temple”. It is said that those who visit Jaipur should visit these temple to take the blessing of the God “Krishna – the creator”. If you have some faith in god. By being at this temple you can feel the joy people get at there.

More Rajasthan ideas

Fly Mumbai to Udaipur.
Hire car to Jodhpur visiting Ranakhpur en route.
Train to Jaipur.
Car to Agra via Fatehpur Sikri
Train to Delhi.

This would give an excellent taster to the delights of Rajasthan-it definitely merits more than just a visit to Jaipur.
If the itinerary would take too long you could also fly Mumbai-Jodhpur and start there.
