Jaipur train station to Ranthambore
Jaipur train station to Ranthambore
We are arriving 4:38 a.m. Jaipur train station and would like to
hire a taxi to go to Ranthambore.
Is it possible to find a taxi at that time!
What would be the cost!
Any other suggestions!
Thanks.

Are you sure you have the right time? (I can't find a 4:38 arrival at Jaipur) .

Are you coming from Ahmedabad?
Are you traveling on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday? (well timed overnight train from Ahmedabad to Sawai Madhoppur/Ranthambhore on these days)

Assuming you're visiting Ranakpur/Kumbalgarh from Udaipur, the following train is an option, though not a good option as it arrives at Sawai Madhoppur really early and I doubt you can check into Ranthambhore hotels before 10, but you may be able to arrange to join a morning Safari on your arrival, ask your hotel.
Train 2966, Udaipur 21.40 Sawai Madhoppur 04.50 (1A, 2A, 3A, SL.)
---------------------------------------
Jaipur at 04:20 (assuming the train arrives on time)......
You'll be able to get a taxi at any time, though you may find it difficult to get a good price, I don't really know what price you should be paying, it's 130kms from Jaipur to Sawai Madhoppur (so you'd have to pay for 260kms as the driver has to return to Jaipur), I paid Rs1000 to travel 90kms, wait a few hours, then take me back, this would suggest that you'll have to pay about Rs1500, but I think you'll struggle to get the price below Rs2000.
So, train arrives on time, a little time to stretch your legs and have a chai, taxi by 05:15, this means you'd be in Ranthambhore by 07:45-08:00, too late for the safari, but too early to book into your hotel, so I suggest you consider the following....
Train 196 departs Jaipur daily at 06:35 and gets to Sawai Madhoppur at 09:45.
This is a passenger train with only 2nd class unreserved, so you can't book seats, but from my limited experience, the Jaipur-Sawai Madhoppur route isn't busy, so just buy a 2nd class single ticket (very cheap), get to the train as it pulls into the platform, find you preferred seat (look for the emergency window), and enjoy a relaxing journey without anything blocking your view.
NOTE: - I booked in Air Con Chair Class for my Sawai Madhoppur-Jaipur journey, I then found 2nd class was virtually empty and sat in 2nd class all the way to Jaipur.
Photos below are of the emergency window, look for the red bars, lift the bars out of the way, then enjoy the view.

jai-swm 2nd class
Take Steven's advice, we took 2nd class from Jaipur to Sawai Madhopur on Steven's advice last year and it was a really nice trip- train almost deserted, short enought journey to not need particularly comfy seats, and open windows and doors provide the best air con you could ask for!!!
