Rain in September
Hi Lilly
I've been reading your thread, very useful thankyou! One member asked about weather in September and you said it wasn't the best but not the worst either..... We are planning to coming for last week September and the first week of October this year. Can you say if there is still a lot of rain, or if the monsoon has finished by then. Thanks!! Helen |

Rains are always welcome in Rajasthan but the Monsoon ends around the first week of September. The beginning of October is when the high season for tourism begins - the days are still warm (hot actually), but the evenings are very pleasant!

2 questions-- ANy info about a private driver- Non AC to drive from Jaipur to Pushkar in the middle of the day on Friday (next week). What is the cost and how many hours should it take at mid day?? Also what are transportation options from Rathambhore to Jaipur in the evening at 7 pm after the afternoon tiger drive. What is the rail/ bus or private driver options. ![]() |

A non Aircon car will cost you around INR 1200/- and the drive will take three hours or even less.
We do not recommend night drives. They are normally safe but too taxing on the nerves! For trains - it's Steve! |

Long-Term Residence
Hi Lily,
Thanks in advance for being such a font of information on a city that everyone seems only to be passing through. I, though, am planning on moving to Jaipur this coming September for about nine months to study Hindi. So I was wondering what you know about the city in terms of any Hindi literary scene, good book stores, propensity of people for conversation... that type of thing. One of the best things in my mind about studying in a place like Jaipur is that (outside of the more heavily touristed zones) I might get a chance to live in a more fully immersed Hindi-speaking environment than I would in one of the larger metros (I previously lived six months in Delhi and found relatively fewer opportunities) Am I mistaken in these assumptions? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Greg |

Jewelery and shopping
Hi there we are staying in Jaipur for three days in April and although it is part of a longer trip we are planning to buy some semi precious gemstone silver jewelery such as labradorite, moonstone etc. We also need to make some contact to do with this so that we can possibly have some shipped out in the future. Could you advise of the best and trustworthy place to go where we will not be ripped off or part of a scam.
Many thanks |

Beebah--
Bingo. I know remarkably little about it, or about what the scene surrounding is, except that it's been reccomended as the best way to study Hindi that intensively for that long. So I'm a bit in the dark, although I've now tossed my ring in, so will be finding out in September. How familiar are you with the program? |

I'm very familiar with the programme as I'm jsut about to complete it! It's a very good, well organised course. They'll look after you very well so you don't need to worry about being thrown at teh deep end or anything.

Oh, very good! Would you mind if I messaged you, or if you like, ask you outright for more information? I really know very little about the program, and would love to know more from actual participants...
