May and June are not the best months to be in Rajasthan – true! Tourism is at its lowest from mid-May to mid-June but it is never at zero level.

However if that is the only time you have and you are keen to see the forts and the colours of Rajasthan, you can plan a trip in the last ten days of June. With some luck, the clouds will have set in and the heat will have lost its intensity.

If you take an air-con car, and choose hotels with swimming pools, you will actually enjoy the trip. However, unless you are very strong and very committed, I would not advise a backpacking trip – for that Manali, Dharamshala or the beaches are the best.

Monkey Palace

Hello.

Do you know anything about the Monkey or Sun Palace? How accessible is it? Is it on the way to any other sites? It looks interesting and I'd like to see this if it's not too far out of the way.

Quote:
The monkey or sunpalace lays between the rocks and lays just outside Jaipur. The palacecomplex is old, but most of it still is in a proper state. Monkeys live in the complex, some of them you can feed and some might bite. So be careful!
Thanks.

Hi Lilly,
You're very generous with your time on the forum, so thankyou in advance. I am heading to Jaipur in about four weeks, and was wondering if there are many people willing to teach Hindi and how much it may cost, and secondly, I'm hoping to stay for about a month, is there any places which would suit a (very) budget traveller for such a period? Oh, and thirldly actually, are there any small Tibetan settlements at all in Jaipur.

Thanks ever so much.
Bree.

First time to jaipur

Hi Lily,

Me and my husband are coming to India for the first time in Mid February. We have a week, out of which we want to spend 3-4 days in Jaipur. Is that enough time or too much? I've never visited Rajasthan before and am asking advice if we should maybe do Jaipur and another city like Udaipur? We want to see the Palaces, Forts and I love to shop so want to do some shopping! Don't know what to expect and what to plan??

Aman

Aman,

I have schooled in Jaipur and now live here with my husband who is also from Jaipur, so it is understandable if I am very fond of Jaipur. However, I also think Udaipur is one of the the most romantic cities I have seen and if you can squueze in the time, do not miss both Jaipur and Udaipur.

You do not need to plan too much. Jaipur has three interesting forts, the City Palace, and some great shopping, Udaipur has its own beautiful City Palace and the Monsoon Palace. And, considering your interest in old Architecture, while in Udaipur, try to take a side trip to Ranakpur to see the magnificent temples.

Many tourists ask us about Mr. Chauhan but I have not met him. I am curious to know about someone's personal experience with gem therapy.

Thanks Lily,

I really appreciate your tips. We've never been to India and are a little nervous. Plus we've heard us "Indo-Canadians" got to be a little careful cause we aren't aware of the system in India. I'd love to spend a night at your hotel and maybe a night at a Palace Hotel in Jaipur. Would you be willing to help us hire drivers if needed when we got to Jaipur?? We've been told not to trust just anyone willing to drive you around. Do you think 2 days in Jaipur and 2 days in Udhaipur are enough??

Nervous!!

Two days in Jaipur and two days in Udaipur are about enough for a touristic visit. You may want to return to see the whole of Rajasthan someday!

You are welcome to book a room at Jasvilas and we will be happy to organise a car for you for sightseeing.

Lily,
We are arriving in Jaipur for New Year's Eve... was wondering what events, celebration and hotel (budget-moderate) that would be good in Jaipur. Thanks!

New Year Eve is celebrated with great enthusiasm by a whole lot of hotels and restaurants. The ads do not start appearing in the papers till the 20th of December so we'll have to wait to see what the programmes and prices are. The larger hotels are quite expensive but there are many places that offer good entertainment at "reasonable" prices.

Secure your hotel room now - all the family hotels I know are already fully booked.

elephant festival

can anyone tell me about the elephant festival that's supposed to happen on 24/25 March this year? Likely to be in Jaipur at that time and wondering if it's worth seeing? How to get tickets?

Jaipur - Thank you Lily & Mahendra

Just a note to those of you who visit Jaipur - not only does Lily provide fabulous information on this site, but we recently had a 'quick' weekend away including a night in Jaipur. Lily and Mahendra (Lily's husband) not only provided great accommodation at Jasvilas but were also able to recommend places to see, organised a car/driver for us to take us from Jaipur - Agra - Delhi etc.

The Jasvilas was a lovely change to other larger hotel chains. A friendly atmosphere where nothing was too much trouble.

We had a fabulous time - "thank you" to Lily & Mahendra (and Jasvila staff).

Kind regards

D'rene (and party).

Train from Jaipur to Agra

Lily,

Do you know of any convenient train service between Jaipur and Agra?

Does the Delhi Jaipur express take passengers from Jaipur to Delhi also?

Thanks in advance,
Pratibha
