Jaipur In A Day

Hello Everyone,

Though I know & everyone will also agree that one day in Jaipur is definitely not enough to visit Jaipur. However, since one day is all I have as a stopover, could any of you please advise me what sightseeing places I should cover in order to maximize the 1 day. I would really appreciate all your suggestions. Thank you.

Here is what I would do:

Morning - Amer Fort. Stop on the way to look at the cenotaphs.

Quick lunch at Rendezvous coffee bar

City Palace museum and Observatory

Evening view of the city from the Nahargarh fort (Tiger Fort)

A drink at the Polo bar at Rambagh Palace Hotel

If you have any special intersts, let me know and I can perhaps suggest how to cover these as well!

I basically agree with Lily, but prefer to look out from Rambagh Polo Bar towards Moti Doongri up on the hillock in the haze of the setting sun rather than down at the glittering city lights from Nahargarh....encountered Omar Shariff at the bar years ago !

Spend more time at Amer Fort and the observatory (Jantar Mantar) than at the city palace. Jantar Mantar provides the observations for all calculations that go towards preparing the annual Indian almanac even today !

definately do the city palace and amber fort - they are both very beautiful. i probably wouldn't bother with the observatory if i only had a day - it's a most odd place! in the evening i'd go to raj madir cinema (just outside the old city walls - it's in lonely planet). its the best cinema in india, according to LP, and i would probably agree. very glitzy, very... bollywood!

Does anyone know if there is a stables or riding club with horses available to the public in Jaipur?

HI there..
I would take iN most of the sights as shortlisted, and i have added a few more! Be sure to begin your day early going to Amber fort first (ascending via elephant), before it gets to hot and also, so you still ahve the whole day ahead.
1. Amber fort and Palace is a definate highlight, and wander for a good hour or two.
2. City PALACE COMPLEX, and you may even see the MAHARAJA. also a FEW VERY interesting galleries, textiles, arts, etc.
3. HAWA Mahal, (palace of the winds). Famous landmark!. Stop on the street to view this very unusual and characterstic building.
4. JANTA MANTAR OBSERVATORY. for those interested in Astronomy, this is the place!
5. LUNCH at a PALACE hotel or old haveli. too many to list..
6. Shopping...it is everywhere and everything..textiles, jewels, gems, pottery, etc..u got to experince the bazaars of JAIPUR, and the life/energy of this colorful city..Wander through johari bazaar..Also, u can visit SOME great textile shops in the city, Anockhi, Cottons, Soma, etc..
7. Stop for a lassi at the famous lassiwallah!
8.oh, definately take a cycle rickshaw ride around the old city!..great people/cow watching, and also, can see many of the gates of the city..
9. visit the Birla Temple, late afternoon ..Very beautiful!
10 Sunset at Tiger Fort, NAHAGARGH fORT.
10. have a cocktail at the POLO baR at the Rambagh PALACE hotel and tour the gracious grounds..
10..dINNER, maybe a colorful local resturant, like NIROS..
sTAY LONGER!! HAPPY travels, bonita..

You guys drink the lassi?

I'm going to India in a few weeks. I haven't been there since I was a kid. Anyway, I also only have a day for Jaipur, then on to Udaipur. What's the best mode of transport given my time constraints? Hire a car/driver for the day? Or is their a group of sites close enough together that I can walk amongst them?

I don't think I'll be drinking lassi in Jaipur or anywhere in India. To me, having grown up in the West, consuming dairy in India is a surefire way to get sick. Then again I have a weak stomach.

I agree. If you like to stay quite time per place, these two sites are a must. Hawa Mahal.. ok you can just go near that, take the picture and that's it. The city itself is not big deal, but Amber Fort and City Palace are wonderful!!!

Try to go to Udaipur and Jaisalmer, my favorite places in Rajasthan

The Observatory is good but the English tour of it isn't while 6pm in the evening, so unless you undertand Hindi thats when you would have to go.
