Jaipur and the Golden Triangle
Hi all.
I'm going to India this May and I could really use some help planning a way to see the Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan (Jaipur). I would also like to know places to visit, things to do and see in each, and know which hotels you all recommend I stay in at each location. And places to eat too I love food. My friend Zoey from Mumbai and I will be traveling together. Please help me I have only figured out so far that I want to spend 10 days between the three places, and while in Agra I want to see the Taj Mahal. Although I find it confusing as to whether there is a better order to see them in, and what mode of transportation to get between each place is. Has anyone had a really good experience with the golden triangle that could share their itinerary or experiences with me to help me have a really good time there? I'm looking to spend under $100 USD a night for hotel. I'd also prefer to use cheaper transportation (I'd rather add days then pay more just to be able to see all in ten days). Here is the schedule I was thinking for time spent in each. Starting out with the first three days getting into Mumbai, the schedule (with our latest guesses at transportation) follows: Day 04: set out for rajasthan via train Day 05: arrive in rajasthan Day 06; rajasthan Day 07: rajasthan Day 08: train to delhi Day 09: arrive in delhi Day 10: delhi Day 11: delhi Day 12: agra via car Day 13: Agra then drive back to delhi |

razorhed,
In ten days you can visit a few more places than just Jaipur and Agra. On thre other hand if you star yr journey in Delhi there is no case to come back to Delhi to visit Agra. Have a look in the railways web page; http://www.indianrail.gov.in you'll see all the options you have between all this places.. My favourite option should be: 1 - Delhi (night train to Jaisalmer) 2 - Jaisalmer 3 - Jaisalmer 4 - Jaisalmer - Jodhpur (night train if available) 5 - Jodhpur 6 - Jodhpur - Jaipur (better night train on day 5) 7 - Jaipur 8 - Jaipur - Agra (train or bus) 9 - Agra 10 - Agra - Delhi (train) Jaipur, Agra and Delhi are not far away each other and with plenty of train options as well as possibility of bus. Other good option for a short journey like yours is the car with driver, better even if you take the car in Jaipur only for the last three or four days. Jorge Jorge |

Well I'm of no help in terms of advice but I'd like to get some too as I'm doing similar. I'm areriving in Dehli on the 20th of December and leaving on the 10th of January also from Delhi. Iwould maybe like to stay only 6 ndays between these places as I would like to see maybe Rishikesh and maybe other places too.
I was wondering if there is much accomodation in the price range of $5-10 per night or is this way low. If its possible how safe and clean would a room of this price be? I've been travelling in SE Asia for a little bit and here one can find reasonable but not luxurious accommodation for this price range (ie been kinda budgeting on it) |

Thank you for responses! Now the question is whether to go to Jaisalmer vs Udaipur before Jodhpur. But in either case I appreciate the routes, which let me see more Rajasthan, besides giving me specific places to go, and wind me back in Delhi for a plane to Kerala after. Can anyone recommend any great cheap hotels or must try restaurants or site seeing in Delhi or Rajasthan?

May will be very hot in Rajasthan specially Jodhpur & Jaisalmer. You must use a hat and sunscreen lotion and drink a lot of water. You may include Mount Abu in your itinerary, this place being at a height will be a bit cooler. The Jain temples in Mt. Abu are must see things.

You already have a set of good itineraries, have a look and plan accordingly. In case you need any specific information, get back with your queries and India Mikers will help you out on that as well. Have a great time in India.
