is it quicker to get a taxi from agra to Jaipur or train?

hello there,

I'm travelling from Agra to Jaipur and was wondering if it would be quicker to jump in a pre paid car from Agra to Jaipur. the train takes over 5 hours which seems quite a lot when its only around 220 km's.

roughly how much would a pre paid taxi for this journey cost?

I did this trip in December. I had taken the overnight train from Varanasi to Agra and I was unaware at the time that this tran is notoriously late. It was due in Agra about 6.30 am but arrived at about 3pm that afternoon. So I had planned to go to Jaipur the following day leaving on that same train supposedly at 6.30 am but obviously there was no way of knowing what time it would get to Agra the next day either and subsequently to Jaipur.
I checked about getting a taxi the next day to Jaipur and was quoted 2600 rupees. I was assured after by a reliable source that was about the right cost. So in the end I took the bus which left Agra at 2pm and the journey was about 5 hours, the same as what it's supposed to take the train. I can't remember the cost but would have been substantially cheaper than a taxi.

I'm not sure how much quicker a taxi will be as the traffic can travel at a fairly slow pace and the route involved going through some small villages which can slow it down further. There wasn't anything like we would know as motorways but at least you get to travel at a time of your own choosing.

Welcome to India and IM

This much time is standard in India. Recently, I drive on NH-11 between Jaipur to Agra. In between, the toll roads are good and you can touch 150 KMPH. But the time increases when you are at some town or village on the way. Moreover, if you are stuck in a traffic jam at the peripheral of both the cities, then add for that also.

Hmmm. Last time I took the train from Jaipur to Agra, the train was six hours late. Once it did arrive, we dawdled along for hours and hours. We were supposed to arrive at 7 PM and ended up arriving at 1 AM, or some such silly thing. I normally like the train, but that wasn't a good trip.

Given that, I think if I had it to do over, even I, a notorious skinflint, would hire a taxi if I was doing a "quick run" around the Golden Triangle. How fast you get there depends partly on road conditions (as mentioned), and partly on how your driver feels about passing in front of on-coming traffic.

O! yes.
In India it is better to travel by train for the tourist places.
Don't mind the some delay but you are comfortable while you travel which is not the case with the road transport unless you have your own car/taxi. All the best.
