elephants at amber fort, jaipur

hi all

today we did the amber fort and the elephant ride up to the top of the fort (450r between up to 4). as for the elephants, they have changed the rules. the first shift now starts at 7am and the next shift at 1pm. and each elephant can only do three trips up and back. so when we arrived at 11.30 all the elephants had reached their quota and weren't allowed to do anymore until 1pm. this is because some weeks ago there was a fatality with a cranky elephant and a tourist and a guide. so best to arrive really early or at 1pm (although bloody hot then). just wanted to mention that!

The elephants rule the roost in Amber Fort! Sad to hear of the fatality though. From what I recall, those elephants are not the most placid pachyderms on the planet... they seemed like real warrior stock. In a way, it is better to see them in that condition (from a safe distance, mind you), rather than the down-hearted, broken-spirited lumps you get in other places.

Hi,
How long does this elephant ride to the fort take?
I might want to do it for my kids.
Thought, they might enjoy!

I read on a post recently, Since that one elephant ran amok at the fort and they stopped carrying tourists, that they had now resumed carrying tourists, although they now work on a reduced scale. Something like 10am til noon, then 2pm till 4pm with a maximum of perhaps 4 up & downs per day.
It takes no more than 15mins to get upto or down from the fort.
