Elephant ride at Jaipur can kill
Today a tourist died at Amer Fort in Jaipur, crushed by an elephant. There have already been several allegations of cruelty being meted out to this poor animals used to ferry tourists up to the Amer Fort in Jaipur. This incident proves that there is something very seriously wrong. If you visit Amer, please avoid the elephant ride, you could get killed!!
Pax Vobiscum - May you go in peace!

Can someone put a link in about this. I've only been there once and it didn't look like anything bad was going on with the elephants. As a tourist I wouldn't really notice, so please tell me more.
Also how would a tourist get killed by them. Was it a weird accident? I would very much like to read more about this subject. I generally don't approve of using animals like this, but I did enjoy a camel ride in Jaisalmer and I know that the camel wasn't being abused. In fact, he was harassing the camel driver, which was pretty funny.

Found it myself. The elephant killed the guide and injured the tourists. Guess trying to please the tourists he forgot about how to treat his elephant. Terrible situation.

just saw a great documentary that stted ar elephants are extremely intelligent. they work typically with only one mahout after the relationship has been built over the years. given their size why should they even care to take orders from humans? from the article, it looks like the elephant did not like the way the tourists were speaking to the mahout. Interestingly, the elephant did not do anything to the manout.

Now I'm totally confused, the article I read had it the other way around with the guide being killed.
In any case Rangss, I do wish I could trample people who annoyed me! I'd be much worse than an elephant. They seem quite patient with being bossed around by little humans.
