I went to the festival 2006. It started 10:30 am at Ravindra Manch close to Ram Niwas Garden. From there it went through the Pink City to Chaugan stadium. At 4 pm it started at the stadium again. No fees at that time, but there is a podium, maybe there is a fee. See You, I am going there this year too

At what time it ends, is it a big problem to find some rikshaw or taxi then.
I would be there alone and i'm much concerned about coming back to my hotel safely. |

Go there by 3pm.Ends by 6.30pm. Walk back some distance thru the Bazaar. Enjoy the sights of roadside holika fires. Take auto from anywhere. You are safe. No troubles on evening before holi. On Holi morning you can go to the RTDC hotel for a govt sponsored clean holi for foreign guests. Entry both places is free.

what about this Goverment hotel?? I was thinking about being in Jaipur around holi to see the elephant festival, but I didn't know about this government place and I was thinking which hotel would be a good place to stay at.
What will be happening in this government hotel? is it safe to go to the place in the morning, and how can you get back in the evening? I'm worried to get into troubles on holi as a single female traveler, so I wanted to book a decent hotel with view to a busy road, so that I can follow holi from a safe distance. Any recommendations for Jaipur?? Any other recomendations for the same plan in Jodhpur? (other possibility) Thanks!!!

You dont have to worry, I join'ed the festival alone. It was not very crowded, there are some hotels around Bani park, it is a quiet area. You go by richshaw to the starting place, 10:30 am at Ravindra Manch close to Ram Niwas Garden, and you can walk together with the elefants.
At the stadion too, there are lots of space. It is easily to stay away from the crowdet area. You can't sit on your hotel and look. I am stayng at Anuraag Villa a not so expensive hotel http://www.anuraagvilla.com/ in the Bani Park Area, together with 3 other women. You can call the hotel if you like. Jette from Denmark |

Check hotel Gangaur in the above site. It is a govt hotel next to Khasa kothi where the govt sponsored holi can be played safely. Also it is in the heart of the city, so you can walk on the roads with other guests . I think(not sure), there is an open bus top ride of the city starting from Khasa kothi as well. |

The crowds may be less unruly than in Delhi but then it depends on what you encounter. Holi is played on the forenoon of the 11th. Elephant festival, Jaipur is on 10th March afternoon.

So, if I wanted to head to Ranthambore NP on the 11th, is it best to wait until lunchtime?
Don't really want to have to wait inside if at all possible but don't want to get doused in water either ![]() |

There will be no buses till about 3pm. If you can get a cab willing and fixed up in advance, there is no problem in travelling with windows rolled up. Trains keep running.
