Day trip from Delhi to Jaipur

Hi all - I'm wondering a few things about taking a day trip from Delhi to Jaipur.

1. Can I buy bus tickets in advance at the Bikandir House? I want to make sure I'm on the earliest bus, with AC.

2. How much should I expect to pay for a day taxi in Jaipur? I assume there will be taxis near where the bus lets off in Jaipur. I also want the taxi to take us to Amber (that's where the Fort is, right). And a driver who is not going to hassle me or my friends (we're 3 women) about commission shops or harass us.

Any help? Thanks a lot, this forum is great.

Hello Lawgirl and welcome to indiamike.com

Other members will advise about bus bookings, but you should also consider the train, although the following trains do not run on Wednesdays.

Train 2015 departs New Delhi at 06:10 and gets to Jaipur at 10:45
Air con chair class = Rs 465

Coming back....

Train 2016 departs Jaipur at 17:45 and gets to New Delhi at 22:45

These trains are the Shatabdi trains (and can be booked over the Internet 90 days in advance), the Shatabdi's are one of India's premier trains, they're comfortable and food is included in the price.

http://www.irctc.co.in/ is the website to book trains.

New Delhi station is right next to Paharganj, an area full of hotels.

Thanks for this. I am amendable to taking the train, how can I purchase tickets in person (the website registration asks for too much info for my tastes - my home AND work addresses? no). I'm planning on going on a Saturday. I live in Delhi, so I don't need a hotel on this end...where is the train station? Paharganj is isn't familiar to me - what would I tell to an auto driver?

Thanks. Also, any help re: taxi prices in Jaipur?

Yes, you can book your bus tickets in advance and also your return tickets from Bikaner house in Delhi.
the fare for Air con is Rs. 475 one way. but remember bus can take 6 hours at times and if you are planning to return the same day then it may be bit tiring.
I don't remember seeing any taxi (a car I assume) at the main bus stand(called Sindhi camp). you'll find a lot of auto (3 wheelers) around and if it is okay you can negotiate with them a full day deal with all the sight seeing. this should cost you around Rs. 300. if you do not want to be hasseled it is good to tell this firmly to the driver upfront.
For a car taxi you'll have to find a travel agent or a car rental company.

I would advice you to get the tickets done online, its very safe and secure, if you wanna do that in person ... well..its a pain a** even for hardcore Delhiite like me ..and over there they require you to fill a form with god knows what information and you have limited choices...you are at the mercy of the booking clerk..

and not to mention the looong ques..

maybe you can try tourist reservation center..I guess its in CP..other members may throw some light on that..

The address that they ask online would be used to deliver the tickets..

Just tell any Auto wallah in any corner of Delhi that you want to go to New Delhi Railway Station..OR whichever station you wanna go..

I thought there was a special office for tourists? Do these things hold true for there as well? I live in Delhi, but only for the summer so I'm still a "tourist."

Can I book online for multiple persons? Sorry for the barrage of questions.

Regarding purchasing your train tickets......

Send the Boy!

(sorry, I can never forget a hotel owner telling a worker to 'send the boy' when he wanted something from the shop)

If you can get a reservation form, and complete it, there is no reason why you can't send someone else to buy the tickets.

Have a look in the Understanding Reservation Forms thread to see how to fill in a reservation form.

These are the details you will need.

Train Name & Number - 2015, Ajmer Shatabdi

Date of journey - the day you will be traveling

Class - CC (air con chair class) just write CC

Number of berths/seats - 3

Station from - New Delhi

To – Jaipur

Boarding at – New Delhi

Reservation up to – Jaipur

At the bottom of the reservation form, complete the return journey details.

Train Name & Number - 2016, Ajmer-Delhi Shatabdi

Name of Applicant should be your name.

Signature of the applicant/representative - should be the person who hands over the cash at the counter.

Date & Time - of ticket purchase.

I've signed up online, so I suppose I will do it there, altho I can't understand this business about "charting."

EDITED: My friends want to do only the day trip. What is Taktal? Can I do etickets? I don't really understand how this works re: confirmed/unconfirmed seats and paper/etickets.

Thanks so much to everyone for their help. India is maddening hard to navigate.
