Day trip from Delhi to Jaipur?

What do you think is the best way to do a day trip from Delhi to Jaipur? We are four persons together so I think we could rent a car and a driver or take a train and taxi in Jaipur...

well for jaipur going by road is faster than any other mode..as the normal trains take around 6 hours and by road you can make it in 4-5 hours..

from Delhi its 265 KM for jaipur.. and you can get a bus from Sarai Kale Khan OR Dhaula Kuan.

Also you have Volvo buses for leaving for jaipur, even though I know that they are available somewhere near India gate, however not sure about the exact location...

A normal roadways bus would charge around Rs.150 while a volvo should be below Rs.500 per person.

You'd be asking the driver to do a very long day if he were to take you from Delhi, then around Jaipur and back to Delhi.

The Shatabdi (one of India's best and fastest trains) departs at about 06:10, gets to Jaipur at about 10:40, giving you 7 hours in Jaipur before the return Shatabdi departing at about 17:45 and getting back to Delhi at about 22:30.

The Shatabdi runs from New Delhi station, right next to the backpackers area of Paharganj, so a hotel there would be very convenient.

The train is also a very relaxing way to get to/from Jaipur, just negotiate a price with a taxi driver (whom you can talk to) when you get to Jaipur station, even if you pay a little over the correct price, between 4 of you it will only be a tiny amount.

The India Coffee House in Jaipur (driver will know it) is a great place to relax and get out of the sun for an hour, also, the Monkey temple (on a hill to the east of the city) is another place to escape the crowds, a Jaipur based driver will know all these places, a Delhi based driver may not.

drivers are used to it..and whenever you go to visit a place..they take a nap in the car...

The Delhi Japiur road is a very good and comfortable stretch..

Delhi / Jaipur / Delhi can be done comfortably in one day by car as well as by bus or train. The first bus (volvo) leaves Delhi at 0600 hrs from Bikaner house near India gate and the tariff is INR 460 per person one-way. It arrives Jaipur at 1100 hrs. Get down at Narain SIngh Circle. There & then u can hire a cab to take you around. After your city tour covering City palace, observatory, Hawa Mahal , Birla Temple, Albert hall museum you can take the bus back to Delhi at around 1700 hrs or 1800 hrs from the same place you got off at. I stay at Jaipur and go to Delhi almost every sunday. It isnt tiring or uncomfortable for me as the road conditions are good.

Thank you for the comments! Just curious why you prefer bus (Volvo) instead of train? Schedule for the train is about the same and price also in CC (A/C) class?

Well I prefer the bus for 02 reasons ..first it is mostly on time ans second I dont have to bother about prior bookings...in case I dont get Volvo I take the super deluxe A/c bus (INR 370) or sometimes even the non A/C bus (for overnight journey for just INR 270)... most importantly the Narayan Singh Circle is close to my place ...So u see I have my valid reasons...however during the season time (when there is more of tourist rush) and on weekends a prior booking even in the bus is advisable...

Bus service is available

Hi..

ISBT - non volvo bus service is available. I think they run every hour. (Done this)

You might also want to stand on NH-8 and hitch a ride to jaipur.
There are many Taxi Drivers who would accodomate you for Rs 50 a head. (Done this)

Also, there are many volvo bus services running. Check out Rao Travels.. (Yet to try)
