Hello. I am new to this forum. I will be travelling to India at the end of the month. I wanted to buy some jewelry there but I need some help. I wanted to know if anyone knows of any reputable jewelry stores in Jaipur? I don't want to get ripped off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

My recommendation is not to fixate on a place to shop but rather educate yourself on what is reasonable for what you are looking at. Go to the store where you live and do some pricing. Once you get to Jaipur go to several shops and check out what they have. 99% of the time whatever price they give you will require bargaining. Be polite. Be skeptical. Take your time. Have fun. ![]()

It depends on what you are buying. Any set stones and you had better have some knowledge of quality and cost. Gold jewelery is often sold by weight and price fluctuates with metal cost. The places I checked in Chennai last year had Rp/gram posted on a chalk board. Bought a pair of earrings for a lady friend and a small silver box for myself. Both were weighed on a lab type balance and the price worked out.

Shop around --- that's fun, anyway
![]() Buy stuff that you like at a price you are happy to pay. Then what does it matter if the local person next in the shop could have got it cheaper? Look at the quality: you don't have to be an expert to know if something is shoddy! Whilst gold is, indeed, sold by weight, be aware also that you will have to pay more for handmade items than machine-made, and this may justify some price differences that you come accross: there is a difference between stamping a filigree pattern on a thin piece of sheet and carefuly assembling and soldering dozens of tiny pieces of coiled and twisted wires!

also steer clear of the 'antique' jewellery which as far as i can tell (i'm no expert, just cynical) was fake.
