Bombings in Jaipur

What's the situation like in Jaipur right now? The news I'm getting here in the US isn't very specific.

BBC has the following to say-

Quote:
The bombs went off near historic monuments in the crowded old city at one of the busiest times of the day.

The head of state police said it was a terrorist attack. Reports suggest the death toll could rise much higher.
Indian news channel (Star News) says 100 are injured and they are not committing on how many are dead.

Last

report indicate that from 20 (CNN-IBN) to 35 (NDTV) dead and around 60-100 injured. It's again Lashkar-e-Toiba? or some Bangladeshi outfit which was responsible for last year Hyderabad's blasts?

It's quite scary to travel over India sometimes but hopefully situation will be back to normal tomorrow or the day after.

Managers of cheap lodges around bus station in Jaipur should prepare their guest books I suppose.

I leave on my first trip to India soon. Am I safe in thinking the targets are not tourists? How fearful should I be?

nikikali,
You are as safe in India as you probably are in San Fransisco. It really isn't something you can judge: it's a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or just leaving in the nick of time. I wouldn't worry.

It sound quite horrible from what I read on the bbc too. Is anyone in Jaipur? Are all IMers accounted for?
thoughts go out to the families of those missing, injured or killed.

nikikali,

as the last poster said, don't worry, remember 9-11, it was in the heart of the USA.

The world is now a dangerous place, keep traveling and this is the best way to show that terrorists haven't won.

p.s. I am moving all my family to India in 2 weeks..........

...Jaisalmer.

My geographical knowledge of that area is nil, I don't know how far away that would be.

I do know, however, that she's away escaping the heat at the moment.
