Stayed at the Jaipur Inn back in Jan for 500 rupees, good helpful staff and a nice social area, though the set meal they do is not that good value. Check out the Jaipur accommodation pages!

I loved the Arya Niwas which would fit your bill except it is a bit more expensive than you stated. I think my single was around 600 a night. Small super clean room with private bath and TV on a back courtyard which meant quiet. The hotel has a great cafeteria with good cheap food and a front garden for snacks and afternoon tea. They have a web page.

...Javed, the idea here is to share information in the public forum so that it is available for all.

We stayed at Jaipur Inn last November and it was not such a good choice. Rooms are comfortable, expecially those at 750Rs, while dormitory is really awful. We had reserved the room by telephone the day before arriving but when we got there in late night the room was not available at the arranged price. Hotel manager wanted to be paid in advance and his attitude became polite only the last day when he gave us his business card and asked for references. try another one and have a good time

Many years ago I stayed at the Evergreen Guest House. It's cheap and very popular with travelers. It has a nice big courtyard with grass. And a restaurant with tables inside and out. When I was there, lot's of people from all over were there.
It's by the GPO.

I second Arya Niwas! Lovely hotel with pleasant gardens, good cheap food in the restaurant, and decent location.

How "budget" is your budget? We stayed at a Heritage home called Madhuban which was wonderful. We met people from all over the world.

I would not consider this a budget hotel (as in backpacker type) but it is not a luxury hotel either.

Here is the website for you to check out yourself: http://www.madhuban.net/

Did not stay here but it's supposed to be very nice: http://www.jasvilas.com/jasvilas.htm

Jaipur budget

I stayed at the Pearl Palace Hotel for 3 weeks last year.

It's clean and quiet but fairly central.

It has a rooftop restaurant with decent food where you can meet other travellers and NGO's.

Rooms start at Rs250 single.

I loved the Hotel Arya Niwas. Its a big place, and very impersonal but has a lovely verandah and a great vegetarian cafeteria with very reasonable prices. And a lift. I had a single...very small with cable tv and private bath and the place is very well kept. www.aryaniwas.com. Be sure you arrive before 6pm or they may give your room away.

I really liked Madhuban. It's in a quiet residential area not too far from the "pink city" and other sites worth visiting. Rooms and grounds are immaculate; the restaurant is quite good; the staff are friendly and helpful. See:

Closest budget guest house near the Birla Auditorium will be the Shree Niwas Guest House on 12, Vivekanand Marg. Phone is +91-141-2373993. Sorry dont have email.
