We had Jaipur trip on 19-20 May 2012. Although it is mid of May we did not suffer that much by sultry. Because heat was moderate. But always it is good to go there in winter.

We started from Delhi by Delhi-Ajmer Shatabdi on 19th at 7 am. After we reached Jaipur on 10.30 Am we went to our hotel. It was a medium hotel (Krishna Palace)

We took bath there and refreshed ourselves. Then started fro Day 1 trip at around 12.30 pm

on day 1 we covered
1. Amer Palace
2. City Garden
3. Jantar Mantar
4. City Palace
5. Jal Mahal

We started on Day 2 around 9 am

1. Jaigar Fort
2. Nahargarh Fort
3. Albert Hall
4. Birla Temple
5. Hawa Mahal

After completing these we went to Jaipur station on 4.30 pm and took again dehli ajmer shatabdi and reached delhi on 10 pm.
Thanks,
Raktim Sarkar

My feet hurt just reading about it. I'll be there in mid-October, taking the same train, trying to figure out just how much I can reasonably do. No way will I be able to match raktimjgc!

If you want to try Rajasthani Tradinational Food then try Chokhi Dhani also.

Actually, this is very do-able with a bit of planning. The monuments are segregated in the following blocks:

1. The city palace square includes The city palace (Chandramahal pavillion), the Hawa Mahal (from the backside, it's only a facade), Jantar Mantar and Govind Devji temple. Also visit Gaitore cenotaphs. This is about a 4-6 hour deal totally.

2. The Greater Amer circuit (Amer fort, Jaigarh (which was the old amer fort before Jaisingh the second) does take 3-4 hours for doing any justice to it. Add Nahargarh and that's the better part of the day for you. You will still not have much time for say, sagar lake or the older cenotaphs of raja mansingh. You can also cover Gaitore (newer cenotaphs) on the way back to the city and stop over at Jalmahal (there's only a waterfront right now from where to see it and take photos).

3. The modern city attractions - Birla temple and Albert Hall museum (including travel inbetween the two) is about a two hour gig. Behind the birla temple is the older (it was built around 1760) Ganesh temple and the hillock fortress of Moti Dungri (translated as the Pearl Hillock). Moti dungri is not open to visitors as the royal family still owns it and controls the area. Late in the afternoon though, when the sun is lower in the horizon, it does look beautiful.

There're other attractions such as Galtaji temple (that has got famous as the monkey temple) and off-Jaipur there's Samode palace.

So if you dont shop a whole lot the sights under 1-3 are do-able in a two day time-frame with some form of private transport (autorickshaw / car+driver).

Glad you added the "private transport" clause. Maybe I will give this a shot after all.

Well, I'm a bit feeble (a trip to the local shopping mall sends me to bed for a couple days) but I'll consider giving it a try. I can always go back to my room if I get worn out.

Definitely take a short trip by taxi(about a half hour if I recall correctly) to Galta temple - it was the high point of our stay in Jaipur 2 years ago. I'll never forget feeding the monkeys and a female with discerning taste gently took my hand (with the food in it) and sorted through to find the bits she wanted with the other hand. If you are up to it also climb up the hill to the Surya Mandir, one of the very few temples dedicated to the Sun.
Q: Ke garne?

A: Dal bhat khanne, maaya garne, sutne!

I also liked the Galta Temple, and visiting Nahargarh to watch the sun set over the city. The core monuments were nice, but they all seem to blur into one after a while in Rajasthan. I had a car and driver which made things incredibly easy. I could go where I wanted when I wanted.
