1,900Rs or less Haveli mid-January 2008?

Need recommendation for mid-January accommodation for 1 person near train and old city with nice architecture/old character (preferably Haveli)for a maximum of 1,900Rs per night.

I had tried to reserve a room at Umaid Bhawan for one person 2-nights at 1,400Rs but they took 2 weeks to respond only to let me know that they only had 2,400Rs per night rooms available. So back looking.

Arrival by train is at about 5:30 in morning and departure by bus at 6:00 in morning so would prefer that Haveli be close to train station and Old city. Am looking for a nice splurge place with great architecture if possible,as part of my son's first India trip. For other parts of trip average room expense is 500Rs, so 1,900Rs is really the maximum to maintain some semblance of a budget.

I know Jas Villas is highly recommended but is out of budget and possible already full. I will re-read threads in forum and check Lonely Planet again, but thought I'd post a thread as well.

Thanks for any help.

Edward

Thanks for suggestions and I have already emailed to both of them. Have you actually stayed in either place?

Unfortunately of the few reviews that I have seen many do not mention what type of room they stayed in. While the general hotel service and public rooms will be the same, a rave about how great the room was (when it was actually a Super Deluxe Suite) does not help one if you think that they are talking about merely a Deluxe room.

I have stayed in chirmi. very nice place.... nothing over the top.... unobtrusive good service
I donot exactly remenber the name /kind of room we stayed in... but it was not a suite. We stayed in the special room in the ground floor (larger than other rooms). It was about 1600 on a peak weekend (15th august)the room was very nice .... AC, cable TV along with heritage decor and furniture. the attached bath was also nice (shower - not bathtub).
there is a nice veranda and lawn where you can seat and relax in the evenings.
there is also a miniscule pool and a gorgously mirrored and frescoed dinning room. cannot speak about the food as we did not eat there.
The best thing is the location..... Its very near MI road and the old city ..... yet very quiet in a residential street.
