Travelling to Kumaon

Hello

I am travelling to Nainital - Ranikhet - Corbett in May end alongwith my family. The proposed plan is 2 Nights at Nainital followed by 4 Nights at Ranikhet & 1 night at Corbett.

At Nainital, we intend to cover Pangot, local sights & all Tals.

From Ranikhet we intend to cover Kausani & Baijnath.

I would like to know if Mirtola Ashram can also be visited from Ranikhet.

Also, what else can be covered from Ranikhet?

Can anyone also tell me a reasonably clean & comfortable place for staying at Nainital?

Looking forward to responses.

Regards

Ashish

Mirtola is closer to Almora (one hour). You can cover it from Ranikhet but that wud become a full-day trip.

Travelling to Kumaon

Thanx a lot Dilliwala. Incidentally, is it possible to tell me the approx. distances from Nainital to Ranikhet Via Almora & Mirtola. In fact is it feasible?

Also, what are the distances from Ranikhet to Baijnath via Kausani.

Regards

Ashish

from nainital, you go till garam pani (common point). from there, you get a different road to ranikhet and a different one to almora. so do not go to ranikhet via almora - it will be slightly long.
for exact distances, check out with DW or Piyush.

Nainital-Almora - 76 km
Almora-Panwanaula - 32 km (Mirtola is 2 km from here)
Panwanaula-Almora(bypass)-Ranikhet - 73 km

That's 5-6 hours of driving. Unless you have a special reason to go to Mirtola, I'd give it a miss. Read about it in Bill Aitken's book, that's good enough.
