Tired out from IM!

Been lurking on IM for the last couple of weeks but this morning takes the biscuit! I logged on at 7am and joined up about 10 mins ago after searching threads for 6 hours and thinking I need to join in!! I seem to be logged on this site every minute I'm not working (I play with lasers at Coventry University by the way until contract ends in Dec) Its becoming seriously tiring eating all food at PC etc!
Brilliant site by the way! Guess you can tell that from my first paragraph!
I first went to India in 1976 as an impressionable 21 year old and what an impression it made! Flew to Delhi and travelled up to Nepal (over Himilayas on the top of a coach) Then back to India, down to the South and ferry to Sri Lanka all on public transport (SteveBar train info will be invaluable to me next time!)
The 2nd time was for 6 months too in 1986 Goa and the South (Kodai, Kerala)
I Missed 1996 (Wife and Kid!)
Divorced now and daughter doesn't speak, so I'm selling my house and going on the road in 2006 (Whats with all the 6's?)
I won't bore you anymore at the mo just saying hi and hoping to join in some talks. I was a bit worried about going on the road again at 50ish (I'm a budget traveller!) but IM has fully restored my belief in myself and with a bit of help from you people this could be the trip to end all trips (hopefully for a long time)
I will ask one question though I won't be going east until next May(ish). I may have the chance of getting some help in obtaining a business visa from a family in Mumbai as I work with the son here but I don't intend doing any business just wanna stay longer than 6 months - Any thoughts on that?

OP:
Welcome to IM, a day trip to Nepal or Sri Lanka will allow you to stay for another lenght of a visa. I dont have anymore specifics (cos I dont need a visa for India) hopefully another IM'er will answer your question soon.

Thanks for the welcome John.SW and Indojingai!
Also for the info on the visa renewal in Sri Lanka and Nepal. I had been following threads previously on these issues and Sri Lanka seems the better option. I just asked about the business visa scenario as I thought I might get 2 years instead? I realise that it will not be easy to achieve it and probably easier to go with the 6 month tourist visa and renew!

Welcome! Another addict!

I'm one of the fifty-plussers here and I've recently decided to live here in India. Doubt that I ever was fit enough for trecking or backpacking, but there are, I'm sure, active members of bothe those species around here who make us look young!

Thumbs up Welcome Howie

Welcome Howie. Happy planning for your next trip to India. Travel will be slower due to age but far more enjoyable with more bathroom breaks with each journey. Welcome aboard..

Thanks everyone for welcoming me to IM!
There seems to be plenty of older members around which is good news – although I mix with most age group’s well! (apart from 17 year old daughter’s that is!!)

Thanks in advance Davey for having a check around re visa although not imperative at the moment! Talking of red wine I picked up a real bargain Italian red today reduced to £2.50 and it was good (I didn’t believe it either, bought it on a whim as I usually pay about £4 a bottle!) Only problem was it was the only bottle left on the shelf, if they get any more in I will be swooping it!

It would be much easier and fun getting ferry from Rameshswaram for visits and visas! (hello there by the way!)

I will be travelling with a backpack (not a case sort of person!) with the latest miniaturised electronic gizmos whatever they are nowadays? – Think a search on Ebay will be in order. I’ve followed a few threads on the packing area and that’s sure going to be invaluable as I always forget something important even just going camping for the weekend!

Re the bathroom breaks – I may get a bag fitted much less hassle (he,he!)

Finally thanks to the Devonlassies for their message, so there are some mad older females still travelling? whoopee!

Hoping to meet up with some of you guys in the future - Howie

Thanks for your words of wisdom Sonomama! I've only been a member on IM for less than 1 day and already have had welcome messages from most of the continents on the earth! Wow that's communication for you! Rather humbling I may add. (PS I see your birth date is Sept14 1954? Mine is Sept12 1954!)

Hi Howie,

I took the same boat from Ski Lanka in 1972. But about the visa: Exactly 6 months after the day I first entered India, I had to leave for 6 months in order to reenter. The month I spent in Sri Lanka counted toward India's 6 month limit because I had not stayed out of India for at least 6 months.

Hi Jerrye, that was what I was (worrying?) about! The fact that you (maybe?) have to leave India for the full 6 months? Can you tell me whether that was in 1972 or is it still the same today? Maybe I will have to seriously look into the business visa possibilities for a 12 monther or maybe student visa (not oldest student in town yet again??!!)

Thanks for your input - Howie
