That's a spanner. Definitely.
Surely? Certainly doesn't look like a Leatherman toolkit, although that would be much more difficult to identify in such a small picture.

I may be mistaken (it's too small to make out), but I think the avatar is of Varaha, one of Vishnu's avatars (a boar). What he would then be wielding should be a mace. (And please lord, forgive us for this our daily pedantry
)(Checking that avatar again: I think it's the Shaivite trident actually. That would make it not Varaha probably, who should have four arms in any case, although the iconography may vary; it could be a sword of that shape, another of his attributes. Perhaps some Himalayan cult dancer?) btw The poster's pic is there in the post alright, just doesn't show up, but it does if you hit reply to it. Far less mystical I guess ![]()

I must admit I'm not very computer savvy. The first time I tried to put a picture on a thread, I tried to cut and paste it
. Of course it didn't work and I had to find out and do it the right way.Maybe Arnie could tell us (or you, the mods)the way he did it. |

Whether posting a new post or a reply, hit >Go Advanced.
Scroll down a little; now hit >Manage Attachments (you don't need to go "advanced" for this on a reply actually). Follow instructions. This will insert a thumbnail in your post. There are some format and size restrictions to it, keep note of this. After submitting, check the result by refreshing your page and see if it came out well. If not, edit it again. Note that there is an "Insert Image" function on posts, which inserts the image in full size though. This is a pain on people on low bandwidth, so kindly do not use this. The mods will take away the [image] tags to leave just the URL (web address) anyway if they notice (insert image only works for external URLs). |

Well spotted, Mach.
There's something wrong with that link; I tried it in this post and it still doesn't show. |

The pic does not show on my screen. If I press reply, as Mach says, it does come up.
The guy with the spanner is the taaNDava-dancing-shiva. I used a magnifying glass... What appears like the profile view of varaaha is actually shivas locks (jaTaa) flying hither and thither. Recall the famous Chidambaram naTaraaja ? (same locks flying) The spanner is a yoga daNDa. A prop to rest your arm in whilst performing tapas. The other hand presumably holds a Damaru (small hand drum with toggles on both sides) Shiva is wearing an animal skin, could be tiger. Although I like the term, "dancing with a spanner" ![]()

You see! They had uses for spanners even before they invented nuts and bolts

Thats reminded me of a potential headline in the slightly naughty 'newspaper' The Sun, after a madman breaks into a laundrette. Nut Screws Washers and Bolts...(with the Spanner). |
