The day was this past March 7th while wandering the ruins at Hampi. It was getting hot and I sought out an empty temple for some shade. A magical place! When I looked in the chamber where an idol whould have been kept there was a small chipmonk clinging to the celing. It was probably getting out of the sun as well so did not disturb it's repose. From the front steps was able to watch a brillant green parrot nesting within a crevice in the ancient wall. It would swoop in to feed a small green head that would pop out of a crack in the rock. Spent a couple hours in the shade enjoying the peace until it cooled off enough to venture back to civilization. It was my 61st birthday and don't think I could have found a better place to celebrate it.

Here's a picture of Ruth and Sajivan last month (March 2005) at Cochin Airport.

Ruth is at home in the UK, and Sajiv has just left my house in Kochi, having forced fine Indian whisky on me!

In Ossiyan in Rajasthan, ten years ago. Btw, Ossiyan is really a surprising small village in the middle of nowhere with several impressive jain and hindou temples.

This is Tukchen, a young buddhist monk at the 1000 year old Tabo monastery in Himachal Pradesh. He was my unofficial tour guide of the ancient temple.
