Hi Mike2, looks like a beautiful place, I envy you!
Is the laptop plugged in? Do you type with all five fingers? Is the cap a Manchester United? ![]() Alan, you look great! I stare at myself in the mirror and I see pasty, nervous, uptight... It looks more and more like I should be going to North India in Jan, but I still don't have a ticket. |

I'm going to India for the first time in January. I plan on going to Goa, not sure where though. I have been reading about Arambol and it sounds like a great place. Do you recommend it, if so where are you in that photo, it looks great. Any good places to stay? Take it easy. |

the picture was just a set-up, way too bright to see anything on the screen :=). Unplugged, I get 5 hours on a charge and the fan doesn't even come on despite the heat! and, hey, I use all 10 fingers -- touch typing was the best thing I learned in high school
![]() mbombay: I first came across Arambol around 10 years ago and have been coming back pretty regularly since (before or after some travel) and I kind of think of it as my winter home as I stay a few months at a time. My hosts kindly hold my regular room for me If I let them know I'm coming. They added a few rooms this year and the picture was taken showing off the newly-added balcony to what's become a 3 room suite! A bridge across the Chapora river has finally been completed making it much easier to get to Arambol from the rest of North Goa and changes are coming very rapidly now -- lots of new construction, and many of the regulars are worried that the relative tranquility is probably disappearing. As for places to stay, it is traditionally low-key -- there are no hotels with air-con, tv, or pools (yet) but many simpler places from rooms in private homes, small guesthouses (most with shared bathrooms), seasonal huts, and a number of rooms on the cliffs on the north end of town -- basically, Arambol is still at the lower end of the price spectrum for food and accommodation in Goa. You should have no problem finding something to your liking in January after the holiday season ends a coule of days after New Years. (water temp around 22-23C today, and waves just about right for body surfing -- just had to throw that in ;=)) cheers! (server won't accept message with 2 smilies, so trying with typed ones) |

Thanks for the response. I would like to check out Arambol when I get to Goa, although I have to check with my travel partner first. I think I would prefer the low key atmosphere, and maybe stay for a few weeks. If you are going to be there in Feburary, I would love to meet up and gain some local knowledge. Take it easy |

Great photos. Yes, Shannon, you look stunning in your sari! More non-Indian women should try saris (I'm into fashion, including saris and I think any woman, Indian or not, looks great in a sari). M2 looks very relaxed and happy, Alan, you probably look the same as you did in the 1960s *wink* (hippie...lol), and the tea looks good in Darjeeling. Everybody looks like they are having a great time in India. (I'm not in India so no photo from me). Kokopelli looks a bit too relaxed (more relaxed than those sacks of potatoes he's lying on).

Great pictures, Always interesting to see photos of people we sort-of get to know through internet posts -- perhaps sometimes we are surprised by seeing pictures of people we *think* we already know. I guess the ultimate destroyer of mystique would be when members actually meet.
The internet, for better or worse, is once more changing the way people travel. From sharing tips at traveller's crossroads, to guide books and now instant feedback, the Q&A of anonymous strangers with curious screen names. Love your pictures, Kokopelli (including the one in your profile!) Not only are they colourful and upbeat, but kind of represent the spirit of travel that I always enjoyed and don't see so much of anymore. Somehow, I can't imagine you being obsessed with planning detailed itineraries and fretting about how one gets from the airport to town or what percentage of funds should be carried in what form of currencies and that kind of stuff. I know I never was. I used to hitch-hike a lot myself (pre 1975 :=) ) and always enjoyed the crazy randomness of not knowing where you would wind up, or what kind of a day I would have. Never got a ride on a potato truck, however -- not that you always have a choice, but sacks of grain, or a load of sand are a lot nicer to ride on as you can squirm a nice little pocket for your head and butt. I hitched from Vancouver to Bolivia and back one winter without even having a decent map - kinda wish I'd brought a camera though, as I've never been back that way. forgive the ramble folks, if nothing else, it's giving a great thread a boost. keep the pictures coming! m2 |

I love seeing these pictures.
And thank you Andy and Samsara for your comments on my sari. I do love it - it's a shame I dont have many opportunities to do so here in the states. Shannon |
