The Diamond speaks
Hello fellow members/lurkers at IM....I have traveled to India in multiple occasions...and almost always to Chennai...
Can't say i enjoyed my stay in India...as i am not caucasian i have had quite a different treatment in india...that is unless i flaunt my purse...time and again people have been utterly rude to me...but i always forget and forgive...as it is my usual nature...
even so it does grate a bit...i have come here to better my understanding of india a country i love...coz half my blood is from there...not too thrilled about the people though...
why this much of a discomfort with Indians? Because once my niece got ill...and at around 11:30 at night i and my cousins ran like mad men through the neighborhood we were staying at in Chennai...trying to get some hot water coz the hotel we stayed at did not have it...and refused to get us any...
and every hotel/shop we hit we were ignored as we practically begged some indifferent worker for some hot water...and my niece slept that night tossing and turning in thirst...
We have had things like this happen often...and only in south India to be exact...still i go back and i try to make sense...because i want to understand....and put all this behind me...hopefully...

As I mentioned, you are a good troll, I enjoy your posts, but you can do better than coming up with this ridiculous example. You could not get a glass of hot water as the hotel you stayed in refused, and rest of Chennai was deaf to your pleas

Just a suggestion, go back to enlightenement and clensing of souls and let the diamond speak there, those threads are bottomless ditch, a free for all, and anything can be thrown there...even the mods keep away and demand payment from nadreg to cleanse those threads!
Sometimes, the joy that the Daybreak brings, is unparalleled!

i worte that down just as a little background as to why i feel the way i do...this was a ridiculous example because the whole situation was just that ridiculous...
i even offered to pay for some hot water...thought the staff at the hotel we were staying at said that would not be necessary and that restaurants and such would give it for free if we asked and went back to sleep...i would have understood if we had hit up places that we closed or closing...but the places were very much open and in business..
just frigging flabbergasted...we would have been happy to heat up some water if we had a freaking place to heat it up at...but my niece has a sore throat and she could only drink hot water...she vomited out anything else...and she was just 7yo...

and i want others to know what India is really like (or at least what it was like for me and my family)...south India to be exact...if you look and talk like an average Indian...you re treated like dirt...unless you are caucasian or ready to flaunt some money....then it is sir this and madam that....otherwise just rude...really rude people....

I need to read the post Jitu mentioned, But about this thread. I fail to believe a hotel or anyone would refuse to give warm water and that too for an ailing child. People migh have refused money but they would not refuse some water or even milk for that matter. Bike rides - Kashmir to Leh and Sikkim, Jungle safaris - Corbett,Chikhaldara, Kanha and Gorumara. Traveled through MP, Himachal, J&K, Maharashtra, W.Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Goa, Karnataka, AP . . . Yet feel so New to traveling in India.

I didn't believe it to be possible either...but it did happen...and things like this keep happening...
I assure you it is not me...several people i know of (all of them south eastern Asians) report the same kind of treatment in India...but my caucasian friends report things very differently...

I vouch on anything you want me to...but this is the very ground truth in south India at least...
What kind of shops/restaurants are open at 11:30 in chennai?
I didnot find anything open beyond 10 to 10:30.
"if you look and talk like an average Indian...you re treated like dirt"
This is nonsense
Please stick to spiritual muckracking

When this incident has happened in Chennai, why brush the entire South India ?
Its really hard for me to believe what you have said. But if this had happened, I am really shocked to hear that. All you are asking is for hot water and I would say that in all hotels in India they server water / hot water even without asking for it without any charge. Really.....hard for me to believe.

Scary !!
Your neice is ill, and you go running around for hot water !!! Why not rush her to a hospital. Should that not be rule number 1 ?
Who amongst you and your cousin was playing doctor in real life ? What kind of a hotel was this that did not give you hot water ? Was this a budget flophouse ?
So you alluding to your numerous visits to Chennai, would imply you are not a mere tourist, but have family and/or linguistics/religious/political/ connection to Chennai ? Is that so ?
