Rakesh,
I did trekking in the himalayas every year during 1984-1999. I started with Youth Hostel Association of India (YHA) treks which were least expensive. For example, I did Pindari trek in Oct'85 under Rs.700/-. In the earlier phase of my trekking days, I used to travel SL class in trains up to last train heads and get into local buses. Later on as my financials improved, I started travelling in 3AC and travelled to the last road heads by share jeeps/hired cars. As to the time, it all depends upon how you convince your boss if you are in employment. I used to tell my boss that I am going on a trek to have change of scenes as well as fresh air to enhance my efficiency in work. Honestly, on return from my treks, I used to feel very enthusiastic about the office work. Also you do require support from your family members. Sadanand

What I am doing currently is taking a 5 day off total 9 days (including weekends) fortunately in my office i get 5/6 guys who r interested in trekking ; we make a group and go for treks..
- we go upto last rail head by SL or 3AC whatever available and then have a full booked jeeped (Sumo/Maxx) upto last road head which cost us 3500 divided in 6/7 guys ..and then afterward everything we do cost around 5K for 9 days per person which I guess is pretty good in my opinion .. U can check my planning & details @ http://chitrang.blogspot.com |
