Small introduction

Hi Guys,

I'm a traveller from Sydney, Australia. I'm planning my first trip to India but I'm not new to the budget travelling scene having done a fair bit over 6 months last year.

This is a great forum and I'm sure its going to be of great use to me during my travels in India. I wanted to join up rather than lurk coz I know I'm going to have heaps of questions which I'm sure someone here may be able to enlighten me on.

At the moment the trip is really on a tight schedule so I'm just looking at doing Delhi, Rajasthan, Mumbai, Goa and maybe Chennai if I get the chance.

Cheers
Dave

How tight is the schedule?

If you fly it, maybe. Even cutting Chennai which would be quite some distance, this is quite a lot of grounds you mean to cover.

For your period and a first-time visit (and apparently low-budget), I'd seriously recommend focusing on one area. My other usual piece of advice is look up the country on a map that shows it on the same scale as yours, and remember the infrastructure and general daily getting about won't be the same. It's a country roughly the size of Europe if that means anything to you -- and that's not addressing said infrastructural and general personal adjustment problems (well, busing around rural Spain might give you some idea, as might the Australian outback, never had the good fortune of being to the latter).
