satory on indiamike, live and kicking

Hey, dear India freaks!
I used to be a hidden Indiamike reader for a while and now I'm in. I'm seriously think that this resource should be published on a paper or get distributed in some other way like on CD or something because Indiamike is really ideal source on web for all the India disciples all other the word.
I'm heading to Delhi on July 21, the plans were Delhi-Kalka-Shimla-Manali-Leh route but now with all the weather insanity I don't know really if I can make it but I'm calm as a rock. Another thing that I'm israeli and I know that being israeli is not so popular these days among backpackers, but in my case is so complicated because I was born in Russia, lived in states and so on, but I'm not ashamed to be israeli and I think that giving "bad name" to all the different people living in this nervious place is actually wrong and primitive.
Love and Peace to everybody.
Om Mani Peme Hung.

Hi Satory.

I wouldn't worry too much about the hoo haa. People can be very shallow sometimes regarding their fellow human beings. (People also seem to have much more bravado on the internet than they would face to face. Some of the things people have said on IndiaMike about Israelis would never have been said in other circumstances - but I guess thats the nature of internet forums!)

I am English and I think its worth remebering some English people can be not so popular amongst other back packers too. I'm sure the same can be said of many other nationalites.

Personally, I judge people on their character without assuming a generalisation against their nationalilty. Its sad that some people are too quick to judge. Just jump in and enjoy India!

Have a good trip!

Chris.

Shalom!!

Welcome to IM Satory, relax and make the trip. I think at least half the people in India wouldnt even know where Isreal is...
so go and have fun while you're there.

Great Travels!

there are a few places where Israelis hang out and have a bit of a reptuation, but India is vast, and you likely will be treated quite well, which is the Indian custom of "Guest is God"
as for reputations, the change with the times-
a few years ago it was the french Junkies who were notorious.

I've never knowingly met an Isreali in India and it wouldn't make any difference to me (any more than it would in London) where they come from. I'm sure most of feel like that.

From what I've read, I'd avoid certain certain areas that have allegedly been colonised by certain types of Israeli youngsters --- but I'd avoid places where youngsters from any place gather in large numbers to drink, smoke, dance to loud music etc etc anyway.

I don't think there is any one nationality who are not made welcome in India: even us Brits are welcomed with open arms! You will be judged by how you behave, not where you come from. And don't worry about everyone asking where you come from: they do that to everyone

Enjoy and Welcome to IM

Hey DD! You catch a nasty attack of cynicism this week?

Hope you get better soon

(maybe you're right, though. Cynics tend to be...)

It certainly is wrong.

Ultimately, its your behaviour and the respect which you show for the local culture and people which really matter; not your nationality.

Hi, Shimla, excellent job you provide here, on Indiamike, it's always a pleasure to read your postings. Listen, on 22 of July I'm in Delhi, the direction I want to take is Ladakh through Kalka-Shimla-Manali. I guess I should make in week or may be two weeks due to season limitations in Leh, which places should I visit in any case? Do I have more time to explore Himachal Pradesh with no time pressure on Leh closing?
