Rash Mela at Dubla Char (Island), Satkhira Sunderbans

I am trying to attend that Rash Mela at the Dublar Char (Island) which is off Sunderbans in the Bay of Bengal, south of Satkhira in Bangladesh. I have heard a lot about this festival which I understand is still not hyped commercially. People of all persuasions gather at this festival. As Dublar Char is way off the beaten track, I am trying to find out how one gets there. Will update as I go along.

That festival does sound interesting, what time of year does it take place? Can you tell us any more about it?

Rash Mela is held on "Rash Purnima" (Rash Full Moon) which this year is in November 2, 2009. This date varies year to year and is determined by Hindu astrologers. Dubla Island is very remote, on the southern edge of the Sunderban forest inhabited by seasonal fishermen and does not have any regular transport arrangement from Dhaka. One has to reach it by boat. Luckily the usually choppy Bay of Bengal is quite calm this time of the year.
This is a 200 year old annual festival honouring the Hindu God Lord Krishna. I intend to take a bus from Dhaka to Mongla and then see how best I can get to Dubla from there.
