Preparing for a big trip...

Hello all! I am preparing for a massively ambitious gap year trip in February, when me and two friends will be driving from the UK to Sri Lanka, via India. We will in fact be spending some time working for an orphanage in Pondicherry supported by a charity called The Wings OF Hope.

This looked like a really useful and friendly forum to get some advice on Indian travel, which is notoriously difficult via road! Any tips in general would be great, but particularly on boarder entry via Nepal with a car, which we will probably sell before getting the boat to Sri Lanka.

Also, I don't believe you can get to Sri Lanka by boat from India. Though it seems ridiculous since it's so close!
