off to India/Kashmir in June
Hi,
After spending many hours on this site and gathering valuable info, I guess it's time to introduce myself. My name is Ona and I'm from South Africa. My husband and I have travelled most of Asia and the Middle East and thought it was time to experience India.
We'll be arriving in Delhi on 19 June (yes, I know it's slap bang in the middle of summer), do a quick recce of the city, visit Agra and then fly to Srinagar. From there we will travel overland to Leh and spend some time in the area before returning to Delhi to explore Rajasthan in the time that is left. We will be away for 5 weeks.
Thanks to all the members for the many interesting posts. This site is invaluable for anyone who wants to travel to India.
Will update you re conditions in Kashmir when we get to Leh - pity about the Tourist Reception centre that has been gutted. Hope there's something in place by the time we arrive!
Happy travels!

Hi Phobal,
Yeah, I know many people want to freak out when they hear you are going to Kashmir. We've been to other "dangerous" destinations like Yemen (wonderful place), but our rule is to keep our ears to the ground, talk to the locals, stay out of the areas where even the locals are treading carefully and ... keep our fingers crossed!
Will keep you all updated once we're there.
