Hello friends! I am visiting India for the 1st time - have a meeting in Bangalore in mid Oct. I don't have a lot of time, but wanted to do something else as this feels like such a once in a lifetime chance for me. Two thoughts were to fly into Delhi and visit Agra - 2nd thought was to fly to Mumbai and go to Goa, then work my way over to Bangalore in time for my meeting. I will likely fly from JFK airport in NY, although some have recommended that I fly through Frankfurt direct to Bangalore. I have to book my ticket this week and am so pressed for time - then thankfully found this web site! I'm so hoping that your advice will help me quickly plan this exciting adventure. Many thanks in advance for your recommendations!

If you are used to all those beaches in US and other places, I think you should head for delhi - Agra - Varanasi option and take a train (rajadhani down to Bangalore in order for you to see the wide spectrum of what India is all about - through the train windows ofcourse)
You can also choose to take a detour to Bodh Gaya or Khajuraho if you have more time. And if you choose this option, there is a very good probability that you will fall in love with india and come back again for a personal visit (can go to Goa then) Also once you are in Bangalore, its an over night journey to Kochi/ Alleppey from where you can take a houseboat journey in the famous backwaters of kerala. Also can spend a day in Fort Kochi if you are going for the weekend.

It all depends on how much you can spare.
As Sudheer said, you can fly down to Delhi. if you have 5 days to spare, I would suggest doing the 'golden triangle': Delhi- Agra- Jaipur- Delhi and then can fly to Banglore from Delhi. While in Banglore, I would suggest a drive to Mysore even if you have just one day. If more, there are many options from Kerala (as mentioned by Sudheer), pondicherry, Kodaikanal, and more.
