New Blood - Introduction Hello all, I have joined forum to hopefully find some information out about Chennai as Myslef (30yrs) and my wife (25yrs) are contemplating relocating from Australia to Chennai for work. I just need to work out how to use the Forum now as I am no IT wizard . I will try to post some questions in a more suitable Forum area so as to not bore too many . ohh, just one major question, does anybody in India play Aussie rules football?

Hey brewster, welcome to IndiaMike. I'm not really a computer whizkid myself but I got the hang of the forum. It's very rare to find people in India who know what Australian football is, let alone play it. The way to play is with some expat Aussies. I tried to find some guys to play rugby league footy with, and ended up playing with a bunch of English guys. On the streets you won't find anything but cricket, and/or occasional game of hockey/soccer.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't expect much AFL action, but I am sure I will find somebody eager for a kick of the leather at some stage if I come over. How long have you been in India for??

I have never played a game of AFL in my life. Being from Sydney, it's not very popular here. But I've seen a few game, and I'm sure I could play it. My Irish mates always take me to watch the Gaelic Football (GAA). I still live in Sydney, but I'll be in Delhi, Bombay and Goa in February/March, so if you're up for a few kicks of the AFL footy, I'd be up for it. I'll show you how to play both rugby codes, and maybe together, we could challenge the locals to a game of cricket. Hehe.

Helo Brewster... Quite a lot of information about Chennai here ---it's what got me involved with the site in the first place. Not being anything of a sportsman I have no idea what Australian Football is --- but I suspect that unless it is the kind you play in an armchair with a can of iced lager in your hand that the climate here would be pretty bad for it ![]()

Lager & football do go hand in hand - as is the way, much like lager & rugby . Not much if a cricket player, but will give it a go that is for sure. Do either of you know if there are many Aussies, Irish, English, etc living in Chennai? Just wondering how hard it will be to meet like minded people/people with similar interests?

I'm not sure of the Chennai foodball scenario. But one thing is sure. Knowing some tactics of rugby can make your life a bit eassy in Chennai. For example navigating through the crowded Central railwaystation... ![]() Welcome to IM & India ![]()
