need info on travel to India
Hello, this is my first time to this site. I will be traveling with a friend to India In April-May for 3 weeks. We will be spending 10 days in Mumbia for a training and then would like to sight see and travel a bit in india for and Additional 7-10 days. Does anyone have any suggestions on things that we should do?

You'd be well-advised to read a travel guide to India and see what sounds good to YOU. You probably can borrow one from the library.
A week in the hot season is not much time to get up to the mountains -- but it's a good idea! You're used to the heat, I suppose, but not to the sort of humidity that Mumbai has to offer, so you'll probably be moving slowly. You might want to head for Rajasthan and tour around India's desert areas for a week before whatever you have to do next. |

Thank you for your quick response. I have already checked out many books on India at the Library. I was thinking about visiting the Ellora and Ajanta caves? Do you know anything about them. I know I don't have much time but do you think it would be worth it to go up to agra and visit the Taj mahal?

7-10 days ain't much given the rigor of travel in India. Without air or rented car Ajanta-Ellora_Dalautabad would be practical and excellent as well as Elephanta and Lonavala, depends..

I was thinking about extending my trip by another week to spend some time in Kerala. I would like to experience some very authentic ayurvedic treatment. Can anyone tell me of some good places to do this? What is Kerala Really Like?

I think Ajanta and Ellora are part of the very best that India has to offer!
Either Kerala or Agra would involve a lot of travellilng -- unless you fly, you'll spend 'way too much time on the trains, in my opinion. Goa is pretty close to Mumbai -- but the beaches are not too interesting in the summer, so it depends on when you'll be there. There are some pilgrimages in Goa -- both Catholic and Hindu -- if you're interested in such things. |

Hi
Since u can travel for 10 days, and can extend it little more, i suggest u can make it for about 15 weeks.... Here is a itenary for about 15 days. U can go to Ajanta and Ellora - they are close to Bombay. - 2 days ( ie one day each ) Go to Delhi - Agra and Jaipur - it is called the Golden Triangle.... Delhi - 1 day of Red Fort, Purana Quila, Qutub Minar Agra - 1 day ( for Taj, Agra Fort, Sikandra and Fatehpur Sikri ) - start early jaipur - 2 days for seeing all the palaces and forts Also go to Udaipur from Jaipur....2 days here.... Go to Hampi in Karnataka - 3 days Go to Kerala - Allepy or Kumarakom - 3 - 4 days. Do a back water cruise....stay in the backwaters...and also get a massage here. I am assuming that u will fly to all the places..... |

Slfcre8,
Hey, u can do all these places.....i could cost...let me work it out ...and send it to u..... Costs...depends a lot on what kind of person u are.... If u want a 5 star hotel accomodation, it will cost u quite a bit.... U can travel by air, to some place, to some other places, air travel is not possible, so u may have to take a train.....so accordingly u have to plan..... Bombay to Ajanta / Ellora - u have to take a bus / train / ferry...so, no air travel here... U get back to Mumbai from Ajanta or Ellora.. Mumbai to Delhi by flight. Delhi sightseeing can be undertaken in a cab Delhi to Agra - Train / Cab. Local sight seeing in AGra / Sikandra / Faehpur Sikri can be done in a cab. From Agra u can take a train to Jaipur - a overnight train, so, u can save time. Jaipur to Udaipur - Train. Udaipur - Hampi - go by bus Hampi to Bangalore by train.. Bangalore to Trivandrum by flight.....and take a cab from Trivandrum to Allepy...... ( There is no direct bus / train from Hampi to Allepy ) all local transport within a town can be undertaken by auto / taxi.... Budget / Star accomodations are available. check this website called www.mapsofindia.com....this will give u a fair idea os where these places are located, and therefore, why i have suggested places in this order.... Since u will be in Bombay for a training, u will be able to call people and make bookings.....or, ur freinds in India should be able to help u book train / bus / accomodation. The way i see it, it would cost u in all, for budget accomodations, transport by air / train and cabs - total of Rs. 1 L ...about 2250 US $ |

lonely aztec,
I'm alittle overwhelmed with all your information you have given me. It's great to know that there are so many places that I can look at for more information. I will check everything out tomorrow. I appreciate all your help. By the way, I posted something else about doing a training in Chavutti Thirimmu. DO you know about this massage technique and if so what information can you give me? |
