Moving to New Delhi in Two weeks

Hi all, my family and I are moving to New Delhi in two weeks. And living at Haus Khas, can someone tell me about that area?

Haus Khas
Hauz Khas actually...

I hope your house is not too near the market...or on the main road (i.e. the one leading to IIT/AIIMS as the case may be)...also, a suspiciously large number of Bongs staying there which can be a problem ;-)

Otherwise, a decent place and quite central. Aurobindo market, Green Park market, Hauz Khas village and Siri Fort auditorium/complex are walking distance.

Thanks Kabaary...I believe my apartment is away from the markets but close to some park. If I wanted to hire a house maid/cook I understand they are pretty easy to find. Is the pollution in Delhi really bad?

Park ? The market itself has a park in the middle !

Difficult for me to comment as I am too used to it...will leave it to others to comment.

Btw, forgot ! NIFT is also walking distance - very nice looking girls studying there !

Delhi is pretty bad but it doesn't even make the top 10 most polluted cities in the world (which isn't just air pollution) http://www.time.com/time/specials/20...1028,00.htm l

The top 2 are in China and the 3rd is Sukinda India for chromium in the well water.

I don't think Delhi is any worse than any other big city in India, though at certain times of the year, around October for example, there is terrible smog which can be life threatening to people with lung problems.

Yeah I hear that it is pretty nasty and dirty. Any good places to eat in Delhi that serve beef and chicken? Do they sell beef openly considering cow is a religious icon in that contry.

Easy to find chicken, not so easy to find beef. Even McDonald's doesn't have beef anywhere in India. Veg Pizza McPuff anyone?

Not easy but not that difficult either...higher end restaurants and those in five star hotels serve beef...in certain alleys you find beef - for eg., in Nizamuddin...it's just that you have to know about them.

Chicken ? Everywhere ! The ubiquitous tandoori chicken and butter chicken, chicken malai tikka, Jahangiri chicken, murg pasanda, turk-e-murg, changeezi chicken, chicken lollipop, chicken steak...blaah blaah blaah...

fao48d, [i] am a cool 50 something and when I visited last year I stayed out of town. This time I am staying in town. I have been told that TGIF's is a cool place -- believe it or not. For food tr the United coffee House in Connaught Place. There are loads of places to eat but this was my fave.

An interesting fusion of Chinese drumsticks and tandoori chicken. Also available frozen in meat/chicken shops - ready to cook stuff so to say.

Did I forget to mention chilly chicken, mongolian chicken, red cooked chicken, the ubiquitous (how repetitive !) chicken manchurian, chicken delight...? And I'm sticking to Chinese cuisine here....as served in India !

Only the outlet in Vasant Vihar though the one in MGF mall in Gurgaon is not bad.
