Welcome Queen. This heat is nothing. You are very lucky, your first summer is the coolest summer in history.

Hi MQ, and welcome to IndiaMike. Thankfully the summer this year has not been as hot as in the past (I kid you not).
In anycase, welcome to India and happy travels ![]()

well, im actually here on a 6 months tourist visa which is very easy to get in my country & my return ticket is on sept. 10 cause we're not sure yet where we'll live after marriage... my bf has a friend who got married to a foreigner recently & she got spouse visa in india without much problem so we'll definitely try for that but i have to go home anyway to finish my degree
another problem is his very traditional family that doesnt have a clue what we're planning, he just told them he wouldnt accept arranged marriage proposals & his dad isnt speaking to him now, they think he'll accept after some time now we're supposed to hurry with marriage & see what happens |

How could it make any difference to them? It mostly makes a difference to us - we are able to put people in boxes a lot easier.
But I don't think that it really makes much of a difference where his family is from. Another American friend whose parents were from an inter-community marriage and divorced later - his parents had problems too. My boyfriend's parents are rather conservative Bengalis and his mom isn't happy about it and dad is slightly disapproving. Another friend recently married a guy from Mysore against his parents' wishes. So north, south, east and west - most people's parents have problems if you bring home someone who isn't Indian. Come to think of it, my Indian friends who had inter-religious and inter-community marriages in India also ran up against problems with their parents. And these are people who grew up in Mumbai and Delhi, not from the local village. The problems are not insurmountable ... and every situation is different. But it's tough I wish you all the best.... |
