Hey guys been knocking around the branches a while and thought that Id introduce myself. Im Ron from Cambridge (THE Cambridge in the UK not one of the numerous knock off Cambridges all over the globe), thirty-seven and on my redundency notice from my civil service job and off to the sub-continent for 4 months starting December. After having terrified myself by reading the scams and warnings and health sections in the guidebooks thought Id stop by and get the low down from those in the know. Terror now eclipsed by excitement. Sad to leave my job as it means no more month long holidays (S-E Asia, N Africa, Middle east, E Europe) Time to grow up I guess....but just one more trip before purchase of comfy slippers and pipe become compulsory

Welcome to IM, and best of luck on your journey.
Put your fears aside, read some of the posts here, and be smart about your travel. No reason you won't have just as much fun as everyone else here did in India.

Thanks for the welcomes. Currently trying to come up with an itinerary having shrunk my trip from coming back overland from Kanyakumari to the UK overland, to India, Pakistan to Iran, to India and Pakistan to India to "Theres no way to see all that it 4 months" Well I guess itll be a start!
And yup Im good mates with FatByron were both mad, bad and dangerous to know ![]() |

It wasnt Iran that caused the problem -- everyone I know whos been there cant speak highly enough of the warmth and friendliness of the people (and Id much rather vist a country where the govt doesnt like you but the people do than the other way around) Pakistan however Esp the areas bordering Afghanistan are another story entirely and not looking to get better any time soon sadly
