India in January for 24/m solo

This has definetely been the most helpful forum so far. Anyway, I'm a 24 year old about to embark on the most random trip I've ever been on. I've traveled and lived in Europe, not too scared about traveling alone when I speak the language (Italian, French, Spanish).
This one is catching me a little by surprise. My brother backed out last minute and I'm left to fend for myself. I will be meeting a friend (mom) for a little while in Mumbai, Varanasi and Mandu but I plan on seeking adventures and peers on my own. Goa? I heard it might be up my alley. Young crowd, adventure sports, bars, etc. (I am going for a different cultural experience but would like something I can relate to on which to fall back). I will be there about a month, I got the first round shots (hep A, B, typhoid, polio boost) but am kind of freaked out by other stuff I can get. What food/drinks should I stick to and how do I stay as safe as possible (mosquito protection, sun protection, amoeba protection, etc.) I'd like to come back the same as I go (except maturity-wise). Anyone going to be bumming around in January?

Tosh,
I will be leaving for India on the 15th of January and arriving the 17th. Going on a minitour . Delhi for 3 nights, then Agra for 2, Khajurahao (sorry, my spelling sucks) and finally Varananasi. Then on to Dharamsala for awhile. I hear it is a pretty cool place there. Just looking to meet some real people who aren't preoccupied by money and power. Yeah, I'm cynical but NY will do that to you. DO you know where you will be on what dates ? Maybe we could grab a beer or something.

This will also be my first time in India, hoping to have an awesome time and great experiences. How long are you staying for ? Let me know if you'd like someone to help you plan a little tour, on whatever budget you want. Met this extremly helpful woman from NY who has planned an awesome trip for me. Can work around your prices etc.

Oh, and two important things I found out : bring some toilet paper for your bum (I might just forget all the other junk and pack the doubly ply rolls....definatly need comfort) and remember that you are not the only one going nuts on any day when things get out of control there. Many of us will be loco as well during the time there. peace

Comfortably Numb Josh

Kaushiks, I guess it's just easier for single people to save money in the west. I saved up for my solo trip working a part-time job that paid $7.82/hour. Minimum wage in Canada is around $7.00/hour! So we're not all successfull young businessmen...

BTW, the above posts are at least a year old!
