We have visited some beautiful temples and step wells. Our kids school is amazing!! Everything seems to be going pretty good. We even have purchased our permits to buy alcohol, so on those days when the frustration of not having some products that we are use to from the US,start pouring in, we sit back, have a glass of wine and think about all the good things that we have experienced since being here. If you ever want to come visit, let us know. I am sure we can help you find a good driver and a guide. Best wishes to you on your travels.... |

Glad I was able to help with the backing powder; I'm sure you'll find most of the other stuff too.
You are thousands of miles away from me, but I would guess that ovens are a bit of a novelty in most of India (hey, I had my first in-India home-roasted chicken last week!). Its amazing how many kitchens, even for big families, are 'powered' by a two-burner gas stove. Or less!

Even though there are much smaller than the regular sized ovens you see in the US, they come for pretty cheap (4-5K INR) The biggie ones (or what would be the regular size for the Americans here)with 4X stove tops are called Cooking ranges, and there is a local brand called sunflame which comes for 20-25K The imported ones are far far more expensive though |

mouthshut.com seems to have rather terrible and biased reviews most of the time IMHO, but then that's just me

I went to Croma here in Ahmedabad and bought a small oven and it works great. I have baked brownies for the kids snacks and just yesterday I cooked Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Bread for their breakfast and it turned out great. This little oven was around 3000Rs or maybe even less. I can't remember, but we love it. We can bake chicken, fish and all sorts of things. It's very small compared to the US ovens, but I wont complain because it gets the job done.

Mouthshut used to be an impressive site with roots developing for a strong community to emerge...and then everyone decided to use it to criticize companies, use it as a consumer complaint forum , promotion of products etc....all downhill from there.
