What type of cloths are you looking for?

Instead of Mumbai you can buy it from near by towns like Surat, Ahmedabad, Pune where you can get cloths at more affordable rate.

lot of cloths are coming to Mumbai from Different town. South is also good for same, big brands having their manufacturing units in Tamilnadu.

Regards
Rushi

To Buy, Fabric Mumbai is not the hub, you can try with Surat you will definately get it.

For simple dress and blouses you can search to any shop in South -Mumbai, near Mambadevi temple or Crowfard Market.

You can also get those from Surat/Ahmedabad.

Regards
Rushi

I have no experience in this business, but just at a guess:

In Mumbai, you could look up the state-run Central Cottage Industries Emporium, on Shivaji Marg, in Colaba. Like most of these emporiums, they have a fair range of (traditional) clothing, among a whole range of products, staff is friendly and there's absolutely no pressure, prices seemed to me to be most reasonable, and if anything it could give you some "feel" for both products and prices, from other parts of the country too. You could conceivably speak to them about their suppliers.

I sort of accidentally washed up in Tirupur (Tiruppur) in Tamil Nadu earlier this year. Not a foreign tourist to be seen; it seems to be known as the textiles capital of India.

I suppose Surat and Ahmedabad which have already been mentioned would be other major textile centers yes; A'bad less so today than it once was, I think, but there's probably plenty of manufacturers still.

Surat is a city in Gujarat, to the north of Mumbai. Some 3.5-8 hours by train, depending on what train you take

(If you can afford the Taj however & are looking to set up an importing business, I wonder what you need our advice for. Or what advice we can logically provide you with, for that matter. Maybe get some business associates in rather? A travel guidebook at some 25 Euros would spring to mind as well. I suppose there'd be other literature in your field.)
