I'd like to introduce myself....
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself and give you a little background on me and my Indian adventures. I am Canadian and just spent 2 months in India, and I loved every minute of it. I met someone there and was planning on having him come to visit me in Canada. But guess what, he got denied a visa because of his past travel experience (he has never left India before but travelled throughout India). And they had a problem with his financial status and assets, even though his family owns a business in south India and he owns land. I just don't get it. He really was just coming for a visit for a couple of months and planned to return as he runs the family business. I love Canada, but sometimes the gov't really angers me. Anyway, so I am planning to return in April -eek- the hottest time to go and we are pondering eventually getting married. Anwyay, I think that is a pretty ample introduction. If anyone has any ideas on the best forum to post my marrige certificate questions, or if the know of any wedding planners in the Goa, it would be greatly appreciated. The knowledge from the people in this site is abundant, and I am glad to be a part of this community now. Thanks all! |

Hello and welcome
![]() Saw your other post on your experience so far with your man and his family. There's quite a lot of stuff on the site about marriage, including some recent threads, and, if you search for my posts from about August to December 2005, my own story and practicalities. Otherwise, I guess the Ex-Pat forum might be a good place to start with any specifics. Visa refusals? Who can account for it? There was an official parliamentary report in the UK about a year ago highlighting the fact that many refusals are for reasons that are totally absurd, including, has travelled a lot and has never travelled before. Well; that's my mother country, sounds like yours may be similar.

Nick-H, I am so glad that you have replied. I have read many of your posts and found them to be most helpful. I was really quite jealous to see that your grilfriend got a visa to the UK and you had no trouble of it. Although I am happy it all worked out.
I was quite annoyed at the (never travelled before excuse). I mean how can he travel anywhere if he can't get a visa. It's quite the catch-22, IMO. Also he owns land (a banana plantation) and a family business. They felt that he didn't provide enough proof that he would return to India. I am not sure what else we could have done. The fact that his father has passed away and he takes care of the family just wasn't enough. Anyway, moving forward, I am going to India. Trying to find a job first (Karnataka area or Hydeabad), if that is fruitless, then I will go for a few months and see where things go with him. I have looked at threads about marriage and I didn't find too many of them, or maybe I didn't look hard enough. I'll do some more searching. By the way, how are you? Are you still seeing the same girl, and are you still in India? Your advice and past posts have been such a help. Thanks!! |

Congratulations!!!!
Did you get married in India? Any advice at all concerning this topic would be so helpful. How do you like living in Chennai- and do you work there? I am currently looking for work in Bangalore or Hyderabad. Any advice? I am not sure how easy it is to find work in India (I am not an engineer nor an IT specialist). I taught English in korea and have a background in Communications (Public relations) and Human resources. Thanks Nick-H!! |

I don't work, and I do like living in Chennai, even having been here long enough for quite a lot of the rose tint to wear off the spectacles!
As to the rest --- phew! Please see my post history! |

Ok, Nick-H. I will look up your history. Sorry for the overwhelming questions. I am just excited to talk to someone who is in somewhat of the same boat as I am
I think I am flying in to Chennai in April. I've never been yet, although I was in Pondicherry in December. Cute little city. Thnaks for the replies. I apprecaite it! |

You're welcome!
Just there comes a time when any forum member, however keen, and however garrulous (is that the right word?) can't face repeating it all over yet again. ![]() But I'm happy to try and answer any specifics, or to try and point you towards the answers. And, of course, I'm far from the only one here! Chennai is vastly bigger than Pondicherry. I'd say that it is like turning the volume control up to 11! However, although it is changing fast (too fast for my liking) it is still a relatively laid back and easy place to get on with. |

I've heard conflicting things about Chennai, but having not been there myself, I would prefer to reserve any judgement until I go and visit.
I enjoyed Pondicherry - it was charming. I'd like to explore more of Tamil Nadu though. Perhaps Madurai next time or Mallampuram (although my bf says here are too many playboys there) LOL. |

Most, but not all, of the people I meet who come here agree that Chennai doesn't deserve its just-an-airport reputation of the guide books, and decide they'll spend more time here next time.
