Hullo to all yogis and yoginis
I've just stumbled onto this site, and wonder if there are any others here interested in yoga and study of related topics, like meditation and pranayama?
I have been going to Goa for 10 years and started the Purple Valley Yoga Centre (www.yogagoa.com) five years ago because there was nowhere to do yoga in the Western style in the Anjuna area. First there was a Drop-In Centre, then a Retreat. Then I passed on the Drop-In Centre to Julie Martin who now manages it (juliemartin65@hotmail.com) and now I think I have passed on the Retreat to others who have more energy to take it forward. All I ever wanted was somewhere to do yoga, and I ended up with a major international business .... which will now go on forward, but I will slip into the background and now have what I wanted: somewhere to do yoga. Is there anyone else in here who is interested in yoga and associated topics, or even, someone who has been to one of the Purple Valley schools ??? AnnieG |

Quite a number of IMers are yoga people and many of them study in India.
Have you tried the IndiaMike searc facility? |

AnnieG, Welcome to Indiamike!!
Hi Annie, Welcome to IndiaMike!!
Thanks for asking for a separate forum on Yoga. I will request Mike to look into it. I think he won't say no. Now it deserves a separate forum, as "Health and Well Being"-cum-"Spirituality and Religion" would sound rather pompous. [ it is actually both titles into one ]Meanwhile, some digging up threads for you...... What is Yoga? Ashtanga Yoga A first timer, who used to do "contortions" as a kid [past-birth-samskaaras]; and subsequently discovered that he was doing "Yoga" A discussion by another newcomer, who wants to join some intense Yoga Course, can be located at this thread.

Yoga definately deserves a forum of its own. It seems that a lot of people come to India and IM through yoga and also that is too diverse a subject for just a thread or two

Thanks, Nick
Thanks for the support, Nick. That's three votes in favour of a separate forum on "Yoga". AnnieG, yourstruly and Nick.

AnnieG, if you really are into yoga... perhaps you know most of the folks practicing are of a certain age profile. (more so in the west)
Meaning they are most likely to introduce themselves with a namaskaar... either that... or we must welcome punk yoga!! (techno or fusion yoga for that matter...)

AnnieG, I am a yoga instructor in the US and I will be in Chennai this September studying at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, the school of TKV Desikachar (Krishnamacharya's son.)
and I also totally agree that there should be a separate forum for yoga here shanti and namaste....

Though not interested in Yoga in myself I agree with the popularity of Yoga and the need to get good clear information about this baffling subject!
However I think there is no real practical need for a forum dedicated to Yoga. IM continues to provide a pretty comprehensive guide to what's what in the world of Yoga! And it really isn't an all encompassing subject when it comes to India travel I suspect mobile telephones and Laptops would vie for the same attention! Avidtrekker is for me the No1 forum guide to sprituality and yoga I have come across and he relays the information in a way that makes one wonder "why am I not more involved" Still a forum only pertaining to Yoga? I dunno with the useful search engine here at IM I feel sure that everybodies needs are met. The Yoga threads tend to last, with lots of good up to the minute advice supplied by IMer's Anyway all you Yogis and indeed booboes, please keep up the spring of enlightenment through cyberworld, it serves IM and the outside world, well. A facinating subject with a plethora of view, styles and benefits! Jeez I've almost talked myself into it ![]() |
