How india has "ruined" my life

Hi all,

About 2 years ago my company sent me to Bangalore for a few weeks for business, it was then my affair with India started - even before I went when I started researching the country, culture and of course started to take a true appreciation to the food!

While I was away I loved Bangalore, but it wasn't until I came back home that I found myself thinking of India every single day... I just had to get back!!

so nearly 2 years later, I went back, this time with my girlfriend... did our own thing.. fell in love with it all over again. At the time, I thought this is great, I've done what I'd been thinking about for the last 18 months and made it back to India - now when I get home I'll stop thinking about India 24/7 and get back to my life.

Wrong. 2 months since I've been home.. and I need to get back to India.

I just miss it so much

I hope this isn't a life long thing because I dont know how I can go back every 2 years, especially once I start a family!!

only archaeologists' lives are in ruins

Sorry sport, no hope for you.
The first time I went to India in 1970 I had the strangest feeling then that I wasn't arriving but returning. It's been like that ever since. The great thing you have to look forward to - as well as more encounters yourself - is taking your kids, and sharing their wonder. Then, when your kids grow up - they'll take you - and "explain" everything in a kindly and patient way. There's enough India for several lifetimes.

Yeah, India has "ruined" or actually, taken over, my life too!

My first trip was in August 2006, and since then I just can't fit back in to life in Australia.

Going for my 4th trip next week.... :-)

Could be worse. You could have visited Saskatchewan - now that's a problematic addiction.

Yeah, it probably is! My first trip was 1975. Didn't have any opinion at all about India before I went--nothing. Didn't even do much research. On the plane home I was so unhappy. Couldn't adjust to being home for months. Started a new and very good job and all I could think about was saving enough money to go back! Took 5 years but did it in 1980! Then promised myself I would try to go back at least every 5 years. Life intervened and while I did manage '84 & '86 had to wait 14 yrs. for the next ones in 2000, 2003, 2006 and still hoping for another India vist soon!

Don't worry, if you want to go back you will keep finding a way! You will find threads here for bringing your kids to India!

We went to other countries too but India seems to be the only one we reminisce of

So far you may have known India culture, customs, community and cuisines. but there much more left to be seen. Those who come to india seeking the Truth, Spirituality.

That is why I say your life 'ruined'by India, but remains to be 'ruined 100%' and that is possible if you allow yourslef to be reborn in India, with true spirituality.

Visiting India and living in India are not the same - one fun the other I suspect frustrating

I dunno Brisso

I find life in Brisbane so boring, I think i'd really live life if I lived in India

but of course, realistically, that is not going to happen - and isn't on the cards.. just saying

I'm going back after 12 years shortly, this will be my 4th trip.

I thought I would never go back actually, as I had 3 long holidays there in a row and thought it was out of my system, and there are plenty of other countries to discover.

But, am thrilled to be going back. I don't even know why I'm fascinated by India. It certainly isn't the spiritual side, that doesn't interest me at all. I guess India offers so many things, that makes it so unique.

Would love someday to check out Pakistan though...hopefully in my lifetime it will be possible.

Well, Atlanta, you only have to look at my nick.

Reading your post, it seems I don't have to explain anything about how it feels. My "affliction" is now in its 26th year, this year alone I went 4 times, so it may be literally my "ruin" one day .

For some odd reason I have booked a trip to Chicago and LA this November and I question now what has come over me to do this as I am completey out of my comfort zone.
