This is a very common question and there are some dedicated thread ha ha ha….. but I am really sorry, I had never been to Goa so I am not very sure about the reaction. But your observation is right – comparatively conservative. South India? Not bad but again hill stations like Ooty / Kodaikanal / Munnar……. It will be cloudy . Hey Zennieshax, have you tried Madhya Pradesh? http://www.mptourism.com/dest/index.html - Somnath

There are very few places in India where a bikini would be acceptable --- or, rather, it might be too acceptable, and get you way too much unwanted attention. Figure that Indian women, if they bathe in the sea, do so fully clothed! I've never been to Goa, but I'd guess that at some of the tourist beaches there you might even feel overdressed in a bikini! Kovalam, in Kerala, is another place where Western dress code prevails on the beach --- but you may still find that you attract attention. Frankly, two beautiful bikini-ed Thai girls on the beach would attract my attention ! Anyway... you have travelled in India before, so I'm sure you're aware of all this stuff.

Nice time to visit India Hi Good to hear that you are visiting India.I think South India is a good option.Of late I have been travelling to the South and love the culture and life style there. I plan to visit Kerala-Munnar, Thekaddy, kovalam and Alapuzzha some time soon as I have heard its beautiful.I have visited the shore temple in Mahabalipuram and they have a beautiful temple besides the beach.Good to spend a laid back day or two. Thanks

If you here in August then you must / should / definately should pay Ladakh a visit. Anything written or 'clicked' about the place doesn't even cut it.

| Trekking !! Go trekking in the Himalayas !!! There are ONLY THREE months for real high altitude trekking in the Himalaya. (July-Aug-Sept). There are many many treks to choose from. See this link written in Thai language about a trip to the valley of flowers .... And see the IM thread where this link was given. See some excellent photographs of a trek done by AndreasW here. . Happy Trails and if you decide to trek, HAPPY TREKKING . .

The sea in both Goa and Keralla is rough and dangerous in the Monsoon ..... but a bikini on the beach should not be a problem. I've seen some big scary people in tiny thongs on Goa beach .... still trying to erase the image from my mind. Amritsar is worth considering .... the Golden Temple is an amazing, spiritual place .... or perhaps Udaipur? The Oberoi and the Taj Lake Palace are stunning hotels if you want pampered luxury, and with your own private entry to the swimming pool at the Undaivillas you can wear what you like to go swimming .
