Namaste, Hare Krishna !!!
I am very glad to find IndiaMike and sice I discovered it I am addicted ! I am originally from Brazil, but since my childhood I have been a Hare Krishna devotee, and also studying yoga, indian music and indian classical dance. So, 4 years ago I met an American (that also practices the same philosophy, and he have been in India 10 times !!!), and since then we are married and living in Maui,Hawaii. In these 4 years I have been in India a couple times, but this year my resolution was to stay in India longer to study more Bharatha Natyam dance. I choosed to live in Bangalore and study dance there. So, I am arriving this May. I know there are some IMers that live in Bangalore, so I hope I can get some nice tips !!! Also, there are any Gaudiya Vaishnavas around here ??? ![]() |

I visited the ISKON temple in Bangalore at the time of Janamastmi once. The colors, the chants and the fireworks made it an unforgettable. experience. There's SO MUCH energy in the air during those chants... it gets inside you. It's like a spiritual roller coaster.

You should talk to that American girl in Madras - IndianDancer. She is also learning Bharatanatyam. I think Madras would be far better place for you.
And what is "Gaudiya Vaishnavas". |

Hi B'dancer,
Welcome to IM and India. If you are serious regarding Vaishnavas or the Goudiya culture please have a look: http://64.28.101.188/navadwip_dham/navadwip_index.html And if anyone is interested to ISKCON, I think this will be a helpful link. http://64.28.101.188/iskcon_mayapur/iskcon_mayapur.html I’m not a religious man but I’ve visited Mayapur (not far away from Calcutta) as a tourist destination. It was a nice time. http://www.calcuttahotel.net/mayapur.htm Mayapur and Navadwiip is a recommended short trip from Calcutta. - Somnath |

Haribol Somnath !!!
So you are in Bengal ! Have been there 2 years ago for the ISKCON festivals in the month of Kartik. I really loved Bengal specially the holy places like Mayapur and all around Navadvipa. the Ganges is so nice there. The people are very friendly. And the temples are simply amazing. They are my favorites places in India so far (I haven't been in the South yet but I wil be there soon...) About Calcutta, oh well, it's a pretty chaotic city but somehow I like it (don't know exactly what...Maybe the famous sweets ???) Where I live Here in Hawaii there are some friends of mine that are from Bengal. Anyways I hope to talk to you again. ![]() |

Ha Ha HA……….
Just see what I was doing, I was advising you to come to Mayapur!!!!! Ohhhh… anyway, I am glad to know that you love Bengal and its friendly people. You are right, the temple of Mayapur (Pushpa Samadhi Mandir – right?) is great. As I said I do not believe in God but I liked the temple it is clean and calm. And just sharing a secret why I liked it, with you – the food is excellent !! Isn’t it?And B’LoreDancer, as a citizen of Calcutta we find some rhythm of life in such chaotic look (may be I’m a bit biased. Let it be, after all it is my city!). You are requested to droop here once more, more chaos, more unplanned activities, more sweets more life is assured . Can’t believe it? Ask your friends.Hawaii – is there in top of my dream tours. Hare Krishna. - Somnath |
