Getting married in Goa...Help!

Whotcha,

Why did I say it, I popped the question to my man the other week, did I think about the work I needed to put in, No!....I said "Why don't we get married in Goa?" He said "Yes" and so I surfing all over the place for ideas. I thought I might try a forum for some advice.

I have been to Goa, only once and I stayed at Bogmolo, although it was a lovely beach I did not think of it the best I had been to.....It was more a beach for the local's and i was thinking of something a little more special.

I am looking for contacts in Goa, maybe a family run restaurant on the beach somewhere I could maybe rent the whole restaurant out for the day to do the reception. Then pay for a wedding planner to sort out the wedding registration and get the local restaurant to do the rest. I would much rather pay someone local to help me rather than "Thompson".

1. So does anyone know that perfect beach...not too touristy but beautiful
2. Does anyone know of any wicked beach run family restaurants and their contact details
3. Any other ideas, what to do how to get myself organised.

The wedding is set for 23rd Dec 06, so yes I have plently of time, however I must book the ceromony soon as this is the season for foreign weddings.

Warmest Regards

Caz

Forget it, you will never get anywhere to agree for that date, unless you made an offer they absolutely couldn't refuse (and paid it all in advance), only then they may consider letting all their regulars down over Christmas and risking losing them permanently.

Steven is absolutely correct. Forget about the High Season especially around Christmas.
Perhaps you should consider the rainy season as it can be very romantic.

Caz, I think it's a wonderful idea, and if there's a way to do it, it will happen.

I have never stayed at this place, but have drooled over the web site multiple times. I can't help but think a wedding here would be out of this world . . . No first hand experience, mind you. Maybe somebody else has stayed here?

Siolim House

Congratulations and I have no doubt you'll have wonderful Goan wedding. . . . GM

find a wedding planner in goa and have them plan it out.. the logistics of doing some thing in india are brutal - let alone trying to do it from abroad. i googled and number of services came up:

Are you both British, or is one of you Indian? What religion(s) are you? Is a marriage between two non-indians (if you are) possible in India?

These are the basics you must sort out first: if they don't add up then you'll have to make it the honeymoon anyway.

Either way, congrats and have a great trip

Actually Goa calms down very soon after New Years and I suspect you might have a reasonable chance of working something out in early January. Christmas/New Years has become a time to avoid in Goa anyway.

Mrs Shaktipalooza and I were married last February. She's Indian, I'm a honky. It was no problem. We actually had the same priest that married her parents 30+ years ago.

Main question I would be asking is how to make it a legal wedding back in her home country. We decided not to bother with the paperwork and are going with a legal and very wild ceremony in Las Vegas, by an Elvis impersonator.

Ahh, S-P; one of you has the magic Indian passport...

Just out of interest, did you register your marriage in India?

We didn't register. I wish we had since we're now looking to move back to India within a year and need to get my PIO card taken care of. We're still on the fence about whether or not to get US citizenship for Mrs S, putting it off as long as possible.

Siolim house is very good but there is an even bigger Portuguese-era mansion which has been upgraded and refurbished for the specific purpose of hosting parties and wedding receptions.

Caz, I would recommend against having a wedding reception in a beach side shack/restaurant for the following reasons:-

1) No privacy. Every Tom, Dick and Harry will be able to not only see but possibly interfere in your private function. This has happened in the past.

2) The beach side shacks have very poor hygiene overall and toilets which are barely usable.

3) Limited capacity. These places are not designed for accommodating large groups of people.

4) lack of professionalism. The owners of these shacks have neither the experience or training for conducting these types of activities.

5) The Marriott Hotel in Panjim has a wonderful outdoor pool which is on the banks of the Mandovi River and is in my opinion an excellent place for having a reception. Lovely breeze and a great view coupled with top notch service.
