Talking G'day! Going back in 5 days.

Hi all,
I just discovered this forum/site in the past week; what a great resource! I'm heading back to India this Friday and am so excited. It will be my 5th time - but my first in 22 YEARS!

Yep, I used to go as a young gel in my early twenties, to Mumbai, Delhi, Betul, Jabalpur, Nagpur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Patna, Bangalore, Hyderabad... But this time around I'm finally gonna do the super touristy trail, seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra then heading across to Rajasthan, and this time with a husband.

Anyways, helloooo!! I'll be asking questions in the next few days but for now just wanted to introduce myself. Right, now back to reading the articles and threads on this fabby website

Welcome to IndiaMike

My first return visit to India, three years ago, was after some 13 years or so. (Had all the jitters about it just like going for the first time, btw.) I had a splendid time -- and guess what, I found it still very much India Have a great time!

(Let's see, a little write-up on that is here, post #49 there: India is changing fast, is she?.)

Thanks Mach and enjoyed your post I have a feeling I might just break down and cry with the sheer nostalgia when I get there.

Pahar Ganj will be just as grungy I'm sure. But all the movie posters will be different - in my day it was all Anil Kapoor and Amitabh Bachhan. Now it's Sharukh Khan and other youngsters. Mind you, I've seen Ra One and other recent blockbusters, so I may be able to disguise my ignorance of the current pop culture somewhat

Haha, you mention something there. When I returned there two years ago, the place hadn't changed one iota from when I first landed there in the early 1990's. I swear, not a thing

(There have been renovations there since btw, so can't say about today. Would be surprised if it were essentially all that different even now.)

Ah... I envy you for the fun ahead of you, I really do (and the all-too-easily forgotten daily little hassles and annoyances and the sheer going crazy with it all at times of course... )
