From a call centre to freedom

Hey guys!

Well Ive been working for over 4 months now at a call centre scraping as much money as I can for my whirlwind adventure around south east asia! I get to land in the mystical world of mumbai on August the 20th and boy am I counting down! My often soul destroying job as a call centre operator has built up much anticipation for my first trip, yes I am taking the big leap as a young solo female but am crossing my fingers that I will make it lol! Anyways my battle for money made me curious as to what other tortures jobs people have endured for their trips to india and whether it was worth it!
by the way luv the site guys

i took up a crappy call centre job. could only stay there for a month and left. initially, wanted to save however the demands and pressures of forever talking to customers did not appeal. most call centre jobs would come down to finishing motivation.

looks like an Australian nexus here

Ok for me it's something like the part of my savings from my salary plus the annual travel money I get from the company i'm working for

I worked at a call center, too, for 2 1/2 years--and unfortunately got further behind than I got ahead! Oh, it was awful work... I still have much shorter patience and regard for people in general than I had before. The whole time, I kept telling myself, "Remember, this is only the what you have to go through to get somewhere else!"

checkout chick at coles (a big supermarket chain in oz), not considered to be a very prestigous occupation, but it helps pay for what i really want to do - study and, now, travel.
i used to think that a call centre would be a step up for me!

hi,

with some prestigious organisations, the software and job opportunities for call centre staff is present. Initially I worked with a global organisation dealing with call centre queries. It was pretty good at that point since there were heaps of benefits like flexi time, gym in the worksite, study packages etc. However to focus on my studies, I only took up contract roles. One call centre role I took up would be rated below average, everything was in chaos. Doesn't help when one has heaps of commitments, assignments etc. However the most important thing is if one feels happy doing whatever they do. Job titles etc don't matter while one is studying since at the end of the day it is to build up to something better. Combining travel with studies is one of the best things.
