First trip to India

Hello we are Mona and Tom,
We are leaving in May for the first time in India. Our trip is starting in Delhi then Mandawa, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Jaipur, Agra, Jhansi, Khajuraho and finally Varanasi!
Does anyone have some tips about travelling city by city! Also about hotels and eating places!!

Thank you very much!!

Mona and Tom

You should start off by getting your hands on the Lonely Planet guide or Rough Guide on India from a local bookstore. These guides are pretty reliable and hold a wealth of useful information. Of course, this is a good place to get more detailed information that you might need for your trip. The posters on this board are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Good Luck.

One thing you may not realize is that since you are starting in May, it's going to be hotter than last summer's "hot summer in Europe" for you. Expect temperatures of 45C in June, and in Delhi and Varanasi, very high humidity.

As far as suggestions for hotels, have a look at our hotel section.

Restaurants exist for all diets and price ranges. Start with the LP suggestions and see what you find while walking around a town.

Kind of a huge program you got there. But I will say that you have arrived at the right web-site. This is the place.
And take a good look at the transportation forum. I think you need to try at least a part of your journey by train. We have a couple of MBA's in trains around here and they just now everything about trains in India.
